Default STill OVERHEATING

Fitted my ZeroSports CoolThermostat today and the water gauge is still going off the top. My power FC is reading 125 degrees. The fans are coming on at 92 degrees but the temp keeps climbing.

Also, after fitting the lower rated thermostat the fans still came on at the same temperature as before, why is that?

So, what do I check now?

The fans are controlled by temp switch,Not the thermostat so changing it will have NO effect on when they cut in and out.At 125 degrees this should be really over heating badly and loosing coolant. Is It? There could be several things going on here, May have no coolant circulation, hence heating it up or it could be that the temp sender is caput and the engines not hot at all. Is the radiator hot to the touch just before the fans cut in?

Collapsing radiator hose maybe? Does the radiator feel hot. If not then water is not properly moving about. If it overheats at idle it is most likely not a hose, but if at higway speeds then it could be. When moving at speed there is usually enough air flow to cool the rad without the fans.

If the rad is hot to the touch, sounds like the water pump is knackered. I suggest you don't drive the car untill it's replaced, and whilst the cambelt is off, put a new one on. if you start the car from cold and take the rad cap off, you should see water being circulated. if it isn't then waterpump is knackered.

Could just be an airlock, so try and bleed it properly or back fill the system.

If its losing coolant it could be that the water banjo on the turbo is fractured like mine was.Took me ages to find where it was coming from and a pain to sort but fortunately its all done now.I think the hottest i saw on the commander was 118 degrees.Watch out for headgasket failures at that temp

Hoses are fine and it is not loosing any coolant. Im going to try a few things this evening and see what happens.

Where is the water temp sender on the car?

Its on the water cross pipe on top of the engine, under the inlet manifold

OK just been out at the car.

I took the cap off the header tank and the cap off the coolant bottle behind the passenger side headlight.

Left car running and it started to overheat. The radiator was cold to the touch at the passenger side but hot on the drivers side. Also, looking into the header tank the coolant level never moved. Does that mean the water pump is knackered?

could very well be. You could also try running without the stat as a test to see what temps it goes to

Problem sorted. Air trapped in the system. What a relief!
