Default AVCR cutting out

Hi,

Had an AVCR fitted for a few days ago. Simon configured it up for me.

Everyting was great for about 2 hrs, then after we had finished, the unit went off. Then it came back on. Did this a few times. Simon said I probably had a duff earth on it.

I had connected both the AVCR earths to one of the ECU earths. Simon said to earth it straight to the battery.

I did this today via nice big earth cable. Went out tonight and all was fine, then whilst I was giving it some booty, the bloody thing went off again, then on, then off, then on....

When the unit is off, the orange light is still on, on the buttons.

Any tips/pointers as too what I should be looking at next to solve the problem ?

Thanks

I could be completely wrong here but I was booked to have my AVCR fitted a little while ago but it was cancelled because of a delivery of AVCR's which didn't turn them selves off !!

When did you buy your AVCR ?

Just to say Andy Forrest sorted me out 100% with absolutely no complaints whatsoever

Bought it a about 3 weeks ago. Black edition, NEW from Flat4.

Plumbed it in straight away (apart from the solenoid) and only the solenoid last week.

I didn't notice it cutting out before the solenoid was connected, but equally I don't look at the display all the time, so may have not noticed.

if it wasn't the earth then check the power connection is good..

Unless as midlife has mentioned.. eek.. not had any problems with the ones I have supplied and fitted, but I don't supply a huge volume. More often these days for people to source there own parts and I fit / setup.

gonna expose the ecu today and turn the ignition on to fire up the AVCR.

Then I'm going to start prodding cables to see if the display starts going on or off.

Will report back later.

ok, jiggled all the cables and all seems ok

The earth is definately ok. Big earth cable straight to the battery and then the Green and Black AVCR cables splice into this. 1 inch apart from each other.

This can only leave the Power as the possible culprit.

So, I have double checked where I have spliced into, so if anyone cares to comment ?

Car is a MY02 STI Type UK

Red on the AVCR is the Power. I have spliced this into IGNITION SWITCH B134 - 14 on the ECU.

I assume this is the right one !

Could it be that the unit is seeing a possible voltage drop ?

Is there anywhere else I could attach the red cable to, to do some testing ?

Thanks.

bump,

Everything has been fine until today. Gave it some booty in 5th and then the AVCR went off, and then back on again. It then proceeded to do this all afternoon on and off, at some points it stayed off for a few minutes a time.

The unit was also going off even when doing slow speeds over bumps etc.

The unit is earthed to the battery to the AVCR, and everything seems ok there. All the soldering to the ecu is fine.

I'm wondering if the solenoid is the issue. Should the solenoid be earthed ?

As at the moment it is cabled tied in place and only 'JUST' touching the the metal work that holds the old solenoid in place which is earthed the chassis.

Any help would be appreciated.

no need to earth the solenoid..

either the earth or the power to the unit has a dry joint or the unit is faulty imho..

*update*

MY supplier sent me a new unit.

I have installed the new avcr head unit, solenoid and pressure sensor. (didn't replace the loom at this point)

Drove home last night (around 25 miles) and the unit rebooted itself again

The buttons stayed lit (amber) whilst it did this.

GGRRRR.

I guess the next stage is to replace the loom (just for the sake of it) and maybe run another new earth cable and resolder the power lead again.

Would an option be to take the power from elsewhere rather than the ECU ?

Just a thought, but check the battery charge when running as i've seen abs ecu's and instrument panels rebooting with voltage spikes . When parameters read off from faults that have occurred battery voltage has been seen between 18 to 20 volts . Hook a volt meter up between the power and earth of the acvr and set the meter for max volts hold ( all being you can get hold of a meter )and take it for a run until it shuts off .

run power and grounds to the battery on a switch.. run it like that.. if it runs fine then you need to find a better connection.. it only needs 12v switched power and two good grounds, thye don't have to be ECU power and grounds..
