Default Oil Temp Sensor

Ok finally got round to fitting my gauges, Used the blank above number 3 for my oil temp, actually wasnt as knuckle scraping as I thought. Putting the intercooler back was worst.
Problem I have is im not getting an oil temp reading.
It is an autogauge electrical gauge, the sensor has 2 wires from it but the instructions I got with it only shows 1, seeing as one was white and the other black i wired the black to earth and the white went to my feed.
When fitting the adaptor and the sensor I used ptfe tape to make good the seal, could this be my problem?
Any ideas so I dont have to strip it all out to find it?

l would try wrapping a bare wire around the body of the sender then connect to battery earth. Sounds like you may have a bad earth ?

I have got one of those gauges and in the instructions its says "do not use teflon tape on the sender unit. Because the sender unit housing needs to be ground to operate properly" Hope this helps

l used liquid thread sealer on mine, its unlikely that the sender would leak as the thread is tapered and acts like a plug as its tightened
