Smile Tuning advice... where to go now??

Ive recently had my MY99 WRX remapped by the man himself Andy Forrest ( ) and my cars running a circa 315 to 330 bhp with the below mods fitted
  • VF29 turbo
  • Full Afterburner Vortex Decat Exhaust System
  • P1 STi 6 TMIC (with the good Y piece pipe & relevant hosting)
  • Simota Panel Filter
  • HKS SSQV BOV
  • Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Now... dont get me wrong I luv it, the car really is bloomin rapid, its a low mileage car in superb condition so it took to the mods very well indeedo.

But after a few months I'm feeling the urge to take it a step further

Where do I go from where? Can anyone recommend the next stage of mods?

The low end grunt on the VF29 aint bad at all but it does take a bit for it to 'kick in' but when it does it pulls like a train.

Below are a few Q's you knowledgable bunch will be able to answer
  • What turbo do most go for next? Obviously I luv the low down power but I luv the mid range / top end pull too - id luv to improve both lol
  • What power is the STi6 TMIC good for?
  • Should I be chopping it in for a FMIC or a bigger TMIC (STi8)
  • Would an APS CAIS be of much benifit?
  • Bigger Injectors? Recommendations?
  • Ported / Polished / Wrapped Headers? How much difference do these make (does anyone know where I can get this done)
Its not my daily drive so its more of a weekend toy really, but obviously I dont want to go ruining the car so I thought I'd pop on here & ask for some advice

As mentioned, its very quick as it is now, just some people are never satisfied

Cheers Ya'll

I have a My99 too mate with mods not dissimilar to yours and producing similar power.

IMO

Short answer, if you want to go much higher, it's gonna cost you!!

Probably not worth changing the turbo, to keep the spool characteristics similat to what you've got know, you'd be looking at a VF34/35 and they'll only produce similar power. A change of TMIC to FMIC should get the most out of what you've got. Ported and wrapped headers will also liberate some more power and imporve spool up (I have them and a VF35, not too dissimilar to TD04 in spool!)

Then I'd leave it!! You'll be at the limit of your injectors, gearbox, and starting to put strain on the engine internals. Then it starts to get expensive!! 340bhp in a classic is plenty!

Have a word with David at APi. Did my conversion- great advice there!

Tell him Ns04 says hi!

cheers for that Ns04

i was thinking about the VF34 turbo would I get much benifit from this as opposed to keeping the VF29 or do I just keep the 29 and do the mods you recommend ?? decisions

If the 29 is in good order, I'd keep it and concentrate on improving gas flow and cooling to make the most of the turbo's potential! I don't think the 20, 34 or 35 in any case.

If you're going to go for a bigger turbo an Td05 18G would be the next logical step (16G only good to about 350), but then you're looking at upgraded internals, further supporting mods and a new gearbox!

Do speak to David though; he'll tell you how it is!!

Yes, it`s a stronger box, i`d go no further than 330 torque, similar bhp... just had mine done at that with API....
