Engine rebuilding. Bearing shell codes??
Hi,
has anyone here rebuilt an EJ20?
The bearing shells in mine have different numbers on, eg D2E.O x3, S2F.B x4, D2f.C x4 etc etc Is this normal, or does it imply that some of the journals have been reground in the past?

Mark - From the codes you have on the back of the bearing shells - they are the Original Factory Selective fit bearings.
All bearings for reground cranks will have an oversize stamped on the back of them.
Never be tempted to have a Turbo Crank reground - its a waste of time - the depth of hardening on the journals is not very deep,so you will need to have it re-hardened,and then straightened as the hardening process will distort the crank.
Hope this helps you.
Cheers,
Mick

Cool, thanks Mick Thats helps a lot.
A couple of the journals have v small scratches, presumably from something in the oil, but I'll take your advice and see if polishing brings them out before considering a re-grind.
So dropping ina set of standard sized aftermarket shells shouldn't present any problems then?
Cheers
