Hi
I currently have a '98' Scooby WRX, what do I need to make it go quicker and not blow up.
My boyfriend has just bought himself another cozzie and I would like to prove a point.
What do I need first ? I already have an exhaust but as to what I need next PLEASE HELP
Do I need a new chip, ecu - I haven't got a clue as to how scooby's work (shamefully I only know about cozzies)
Thanks

Hiya
The cozzie is standard at the moment, but he has just bought greens and a 3 bar.
Where do I start with the scooby ? Apparently I've been told its standard other than the exhaust.
Start from the beginning as I don't just want to make it quicker without it being safe(ish).

TD05 Turbo and/or a remap would be a good place to start. These larger turbos were fitted to the earlier cars and give a lot more scope for tuning. The smaller TD04 (which should be fitted to yours) is only good enough for 1.1bar ish, and about 280bhp. As for the mapping, I'm not too sure if the ECU from that year can be mapped, you may need to get an aftermarket one. Someone will put me right in a min!!

98 ecu can't be remapped but try PolarPerformance for their options or you have to go for a completely new ecu (apexi powerfc, hydra, gems etc)

How about just a decat, filter and a remap?
Would be about the same as a Stage One Cossie like your BF's.
What type of Cossie is it?
The Impreza would have better handling and brakes I'd have thought as well.
Awesome cars though, both of them.

What do you mean sell the scooby and buy a cozzie, used to have a cozzie but as soon as you turn the power up they just keep breaking. I am hoping that the scooby will be more reliable !!!

click on " view my scoob"
this will give you a list for the parts needed for a reliable 350bhp, It all depends on how big your budget is.
As mentioned earlier a mapable ecu is a must.

After owing a 360 BHP saphire cossie and then Scoobys, there is no comparison. With the cossie I always had to allow extra journey time to stop and wait for the AA man who I got to know nearly everyone in the country I think. Always add a few hundred extra ££££ on top of a tank of petrol for breakages. Still kept it for 2 years and loved it, if you want to get rid of the wife buy a cosworth, best source of arguments Ive ever had.
Subarus as long as looked after and modified sensibly get you to your destination and back without the need for a flat bed. He says waiting for his car back after the centre viscous failed
Worst thing is this ones standard at the moment and its the only one thats ever let me down in 7 years

if yours was a 98 WRX then it would be 280bhp as standard (iirc)
if its a 98 UK turbo then its a fair bit less i think, 215-220 off top of my head?
last year i owned a MY00 UK scoob with PPP (circa 240-250bhp) and comparing that to my current one MY99 WRX (280bhp standard) in standard trim there was a lot of difference which made quite a difference to tuning options....
on my WRX i have full afterburner vortex decat exhaust, STi6 TMIC, (all necessary samco hosing, alloy Y pipe), walbro 255 fuel pump, HKS SSQV BOV, VF29 turbo and a few other bits n bobs and im running circa 320-330bhp and the difference between mine now and my old uk turbo is crazy!
find out if its a uk or import for sure

It's an impreza they are good whether it's an import or a UK spec (i bought my impreza, an import, cos my mate had uk spec and i thought it was fantastic and that was with 208bhp).
The Japs in the classic shape had an advantage as theirs were more powerful and received the STIs (in many forms).
Tuning them is the same (basically) for UK or Jap just depends on how far/how much you want.
