Unhappy Lamber Sensor? whats it do!

Just had Prodrive Decat and Back box fitted.. but the garage couldnt get the lamber sensor out of the cat! ... (when i got home i thought... prob cos its hot)

I will try later when its all defo cooled down.. but for now there is a blanking plug in the decat pipe.. what does the lamber sensor do and is it vital? I get the impression they are expensive to replace?

any help or advice appriciated, hopefully it will come out later on...

Your looking around £110 from subaru ... don't get a universal one as they are not a straight plug in ,

If you have anything like the monkeys that done mine they may end up ripping the thread

It's a oxygen sensor.

A Bosch LS04 will drop and comes with a connector which you hack into the exisitng wires. their about 1/3 the price of a Subaru item (which is still a Bosch).

Scott did you go with the LS04 (You replied to a thread of mine over a year ago when we were both buying Lambda's at around the same time)?

I thought it was the LS02 that was for our cars, i never did find out the difference between them as they are both 3 wire.

some have fitted ls02 and some ls04. a mate of mine has an ls04 without issues, although we had the same discussion at the time.
I'm running without at the moment as the apexi is set with it switched off.

I do need an new one in the headers though as mine died last week, hence why I switched it off.

Yes it does seem that both work, i have seen many threads on here with people using either. Its a shame there is very little info documenting their specs so that we can figure out which one is most suited.

Exclamation :-(

The malfunction light has just come on! Obv i know why as there is no sensor.. is it ok to drive the car without one for now?

we got it out of the old cat earlier, looks like its nackered the thread at the bottom.. (im sure its the idiots trying to remove it while the cat was still hot) mate of mine is going to have a look at cleaning the thread up tommorow at work, i hope he can.

Love the sound i have back :-) sounds better than my classic did, seems a bigger back box. Mine is an 05 and it appears to have 4 wires in the sensor...

It will be OK to drive the ECU will just default to using the base fuel map rather then continually adjust the fuelling at idle/cruise to meet stoich.
The 02 sensor is not used above approx 3200rpm and 0bar of boost anyway.

you may even find that when the engine is cold it actually drives smoother.

I can't believe no one has commented on the muppets at that garage.
'Couldn't' remove the sensor sir, so I bodged it for you!'
You need that sensor, you will have no chance of passing an mot emissions test without one.

one of my mates has cleaned up the thread by filing it somehow and also re cut the thread in the Cat, he says it now screws in and out of the old cat by hand fine. So hopefully tommorow il have it back on in the new exhaust :-)

fingures crossed.. i wont be forcing it, if it doesnt go in easy i wont risk ruining the new prodrive decat! wish i had of left it all for subaru to do instead of them doing only the ECU and Blue Pipe now! .....

help needed.

iv had the same problem with my decat/o2 sensor as Lwells. but i recently had a new o2 at a cost of £290 from subaru and now its knackered. I'v got a friend looking at the thread to see if it can be done.

so what im asking is.
a - will re-threading the sensor work?
b - If it dose work will the EML stay off after a reset
