Default 95/98 icvs wiring?

I have a 95 car, with a 95 powerFC.
I have a 98 engine, with a 98 loom.

which idle control valve should I be using?
I think 95 but just asking

98 engine loom, 98 engine, therefore 98 idle valve, surely? A 95 valve simply wouldn't fit would it?

logic says 98, but will a power fc for a 95 have the same plugs/connections as one for a 98?

the loom on the longblock is 98, so a 98 valve has dropped right in, but its not too clever at idle, seems to cut out when letting it fall from fairly high revs

A struggling idle sounds more like a knackered IACV than a wiring problem. You may have unwittingly fitted an IACV that is already on the way out.

Just a thought, do you run a dump valve?
