Default So I bought a turbo...

...Its a VF24, I'm told its from a STi V8....

Anyhooo.. I've got a UK Turbo 2000 and I'm interested in some opinions on whether its worth fitting this turbo to the standard engine with standard management, i.e. will i see any gains out of the box or should i just wait until I have some other supporting engine modifications...

After a little read I'm guessing the V24 will be less laggy than the TD04 as its a roller bearing turbo..

VF24 isn't off an STI V8, they have a VF35.

Apparantly the VF24 was fitted to the Version 4 STI's

Interesting u bought a turbo for your classic without researchin it, and you're thinking of not fitting it anyway? Why did you buy it then?

Yes, the VF24 was fitted to STi4's, back in 1998, so it will be about 8 years old.

Whilst it's a ball bearing turbo, it's bigger than a TD04, and will be laggier, but it can flow circa 320bhp.

It's a nice turbo. Used to have an sti 4 so know how it pulls. Very smooth and pulls all the way to the redline. You WILL need to have a remap though!

I had the same turbo fitted to MY00 classic turbo before I sold her. I also has a full 3" turbo back exhaust, K&N panel filter, Walbro fuel pump, uprated oil pump and a remap from Andy Forrest. I had figures of 330BHP & 306lbs torque. I thought is was a good turbo had a lot more midrange grunt.

Cheers for the heads up guys.. I might whack it on today and see what sort of difference it makes to pickup as is... then I can think about supporting management/fueling mods to allow me to up the boost

I'm sure you have been offered things in the past for a price you can not refuse, then afterwards thought "do i actually need this"

Please don't fit the turbo without arranging an immediate remap after. Or atleast dissconnect the actuator until you do get a remap.

The ECU will only allow the same levels of boost regardless.. and If I disconnect the actuator I WILL blow up my engine because whats to stop the turbo from boosting to oblivion without the actuator opening the wastegate

*edit: re-read* I assume you mean disconnect the actuator arm not just the hose... so the penny valve stays open..

Yes, that's what I meant. It may only allow the same boost levels, but the volume of air will be very different to that of the td04, so more fuel is required. Hence the remap!

If you fit it blank off the pipe to the BCS so you only have base boost, that should be safe, when he said disconnect the actuator he meant (but didn't say) mechanically from the wastegate so the wastegate is open all the time.
