iv'e got a my99 uk turbo, its about to have alot of work done to the engine side of the car,
its should be good for power outputs of about 360bhp but i need to know what gearbox i should get first,
i was looking at just getting it tuned to around 330ish to (maybe)keep the life of my g-box but i just wanted to know what g-boxes i could fit, and how much they would cost to see if its worth going to full power, thanks
caton.

Standard box probably won't last long at that sort of power, so you have 2 options really:
1) have a PPG gearset fitted to your box, looking at around £2700-£3000
2) fit a 6 speed box out of a newage STI, Costs around £2000 normally, but can be done cheaper if your lucky

Only two options for real longevity really.
Cheaper and easier option would be the route that I took. UK 6 speed from an STI 7. All you need is the box itself, gear linkage and gearknob and a propeshaft from either a 6 speed or a classic auto propshaft. Its a dead easy straight swap and these have been known to take well over 500bhp.
Jap 6 Speeds are a pain in the **** on a uk car as you have to change rear diffs and hubs etc but UK 6 speeds bolt straight on to UK classics.
Next option would be a built PPG 5 speed. Bit more expensive than the six speed but seems to be the preferred choice for the quarter milers.
You have various options with gear sets i.e straight cut, semi helical dog box etc.
It all depends on what your intended use for the car is.
I have no complaints with my UK six speed I love it.
Hope that helps

i am upping the power on my my 00 uk classic shortly too, got a few options which i am hoping to do over the next year. But this weekend i viewed an rb5,thought it might be easier to buy one all ready done. List as follows
ACL Competition Crank Bearings
Wiseco Forged Alloy, full circle skirt Pistons
Eagle Forged Steel Conrods
STi Version 5 Camshafts
740cc Nismo Fuel Injectors
Ported Wastegate & Polished Ports
TD05 20g Hybrid Turbo with 05 Compressor Wheel
HKS Front Mount Intercooler
K&N Induction Kit
7kg's Lightened Flywheel
Lightweight Pulley Wheels
Exedy High Performance Organic Clutch
Ported & Polished Exhaust Headers
Apexi Power FC ECU & Commander mapped by Pat Herborn
APi Improved Oil Pump
Walbrough High Pressure Fuel Pump
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Gates Cambelt
Forge Dump Valve
Nano Technology Gearbox Oil
Autogauge Boost Gauge
Full Decat with Afterburner Vortex System
Saw the receipt from api for all the work, 3 settings on the boost max 1.3 bar and believe me it went like **** and pulled like a train. Had a rolling road graph of 330 bhp before having stainless headers and another map to suit these, so tuners rekoned it could easily be over the 350 bhp mark.
My point is it is still on the standard rb5 gearbox, and it has been running this power for 3000 miles since the re-build. And the guy said he had been assured that it would be fine as long as he wasn't launching it everyday??
Any comments on this from you professionals would be appreciated, is 350 bhp a safe mark for a uk classic???

i ran 350/350 in mine for a year . MY00 UK .
overfilled the box by 0.5 litre to keep 3rd covered but then it started whining so i went for the PPG .
you could also look for an STi box out of a v5 or 6 saloon

The 6sp takes some proper abuse. Seems to be coping with 480bhp/460lbft and full bore launches with ease (as the moment lol) in the Spec C. Soon to get over a 100 more of each, so that will be the test.

My scoob was running 350/350 on standard box but went pop, so ive gone for PPG semi-helical cut and its the biz feels so much better , now the car is 420+bhp / 450lbs ft pulls all day long with no worries.

No one will be able to give you a definitive answer mate. Very much depends on the condition of the box and the way it was treated before it was modified and the conditions of use after.
Mine is OK (touchwood) at 316ft lbs. It was mapped with the gearbox life in mind and isn't treated harshly.
If I were you, I'd leave it and drive with mechanical sympathy untill you've got funds to replace it should it give way!
