Default rear humming noise

posting this for my mate as he has no internet connection (thanks bt) he has just noticed a humming noise from the rear and suspect it is a wheel bearing on its way out. is it an easy diy fix or a garage jobby.

Is the humming there constantly? I get a humming noise at around 40mph in my Spec C, but then it disappears after that. I just put it down to tyre combo and alignment setting, plus the fact the car has no sound deadening so I tend to hear a lot more noises than normal.

He reckons it is from first start and drive, that made me think it is the tyres, but he reckons it is only from one side. is it an easy fix job

If it is the wheel bearing it is an easy fix job but getting the old bearings out can be a bit of a pain in the a**
