Default leaking intercooler

Hi all could anyone shed some light ive just fitted a ver4 i/c to replace my slanty one but now there is a lot more noise when accelerating hard suspect leak but car drives perfect and holds 1.3bar without tailing off. What effect would a leaking i/c have on full boost.

I think you'd know if you had a leaking I/C. Mine has a leak (FMIC) it still makes full boost but boost comes in really late. My theory which I think is shound is that when the turbo is spooling up it finds it really hard to generate boost, basically when revs are low its hard for it to make boost. This means that any leak in the IC will be a problem for it as its struggling to generate boost in the first place meaning boost will be leaking out as quickly as the turbo can push air through into the IC. As the revs go higher the turbo can generate much more boost, this means the leak in the IC (if its a small one) is not really a big factor compared to the amount of air the turbo is pushing into the IC. Hence full boost at high revs is not a problem, but boost comes in a lot later. On mine full boost used to come in at 3000 rpm on a TD05, now its not till 4500. Check your boost needle, if theres a leak they tend to wobble around rather a lot on full boost.
