I changed the turbo on my 99 Impreza today to a VF28. My car is going for a remap soon and I just wanted to make sure the job went smoothly before the big day.
All went well and the turbo was fitted in 2 1/2 hours. I took the car for a drive (off boost) and everything was fine but when I got back to the garage and turned it off there was a hissing noise from the turbo as it spooled down.
I'm 100% sure everything was tight.
The car was started up again and I lay underneath and a mate switched it off. The noise was coming from the turbo and I could hear it passing through the downpipe when the engine was switched off.
We swapped the turbos back over, nothing was slack, and everything was back to normal.

Anyone any ideas as to what it could be?
Is this normal, or is it a duff turbo?

normal noise from a Vf28. As it's a roller bearing you can hear it run down when you turn turn the engine off.

Yes mine was the same sort of a whining noise,could here it some times while driving!!

ive just put vf30 on mine and that noise is on mine too
