How many tables associated to boost control do you guys have access to within the software?
Reason for the question, I rarely need to fit a 3 port solenoid to obtain the desired boost profile I request, yet it seems fairly common place for you guys to fit them alongside an Ecutek remap.

I see where your coming from, but a bit of a general question.....
The non-ecutek stuff I use has a varying amount of boost tables depending on MY.
I've had problems with sloppy actuators preventing desired boost though.

Not a general question at all, I'm genuinely intrigued.
Like I say I rarely need to fit a 3port and this is with many Newage's over and above 1.5bar. Perhaps the Ecutek software doesn't give access to the full range of boost control tables within the ECU and perhaps this is why they need a 3port??

unless careful this will turn into an EcuTek v other mapping thread etc which will do no one any favours..
the same tables are available in the EcuTek plus some extra features..
There is no need for a 3port on every car.. it is not just related to ecutek..
I don't find it is just down to boost level, although that can be an issue on some cars using the 2port. But generally the control is better with a 3port.
But this is related to tuning method or the view point of the tuner and not anything to do with EcuTek. Personnally I only use a 3port if I am not 100% happy with the boost control on the 2port.
I was using the other and now use EcuTek.

Think about it.
With a 2 port all you are doing is bleeding off a percentage of the air, even if the solenoid is at 100% duty the actuator would still see some pressure from the compressor.
With a 3 port at 100% duty the actuator is seeing no postive pressure at all.
It's not quite that black and white because the restrictor plays a part in the 'balance' achieved with a 2 port but you get the general idea.

On a JDM Sti 20 plus maps. Also true map switching. (not just low/high boost)
Zak the avaliable tables are same as your open ecu stuff.
As Andrew says the three port deals with a controled "slug" of air pressure, the two port is a continuous bleed, the need to use one can only be based on your own experience of remapping a variety of cars with a big variety and combination of mods, then you will know when its necessary or not.
I describe the three port boost control as "more precise".
The choice is always there, for me it's determined by the customers requested objective for his car, you can control anything with either to some degree or other BUT you can't always achieve the objective.
I always have em on the shelf, slow moving stock though.
Love the Authorised Advertiser convention in this thread.

So we should all have the same or very similar access to the ECU's boost control then.
Simon, this shouldn't turn into an EcuTek vs other mapping thread - for reference I use EcuEdit - I asked the question because it's commen place for a customer to contact me for a quote for a remap and a 3port, after receiving a quote from 'AN Other Ecutek agent', most of the time I tell them they don't need a 3port for their objective yet they've been told different by AN Other which led me to believe that perhaps boost control was not so configurable with EcuTek.
LOL at AA convention.
