Default STI8 Turbo Problem

Hi,
I'm not too hot when it comes to the mechanical side of cars, so I'm after some help.
When I start to accelerate my turbo has started to make a horrible screeching noise. (There doesn't seem to be any loss of power, and the screeching seems to stop higher up the rev range.) Any ideas what could cause this?

You will need to be as precise as possible with descriptions and rpms to get best advice, but a few possibilities spring to mind...

Intake air leak on the boost side
Exhaust leak
Turbo bearing failure causing blades to contact housing
Compressor surge (not quite the noise I think you describe, but close enough!

The noise seems to stop around 4500-5000rpm, its a hard noise to describe sounds very much like a high pitched screech.

Is the car modified in anyway - VF35s can whistle at high boost.

Do you have a boost gauge?

I have a MY03 STi aswell, I have always had the screach since I bought it, removing the resonator has got rid of it. After reading lots of threads on it, it appears to be quite a normal thing on the VF35 Turbos.

After my first remap, the boost had obviously increased. I noticed it on mine then.

I've also got it, but is louder on my vRS (also mapped for higher boost).
