Default New on here - So just a couple of Q's

I have got a 98 Turbo 2000 and i am every now and again having problems starting it.. it turns over fine but its like there is no spark..

Engage the starter and doesnt fire then again and on the third time when the starter dis-enages the engine seems to fire up.. the revs come up slowly but then after a few seconds it sits on tick over no problem..

Also the car is basically standard apart from a Scooby world exhause and a Bailey d/v.. i think i am going to be needing a new turbo soon.. what would people recomend? ideally slightly bigger without compramising the reliablility of the engine.. i will be getting an induction kit and full exhaust if that makes a difference as to what turbo i can put on..

Thanks

Lee

check the dump valve is not sticking open.. perhaps refit the original to check.

does it start fine when the engine is hot?

why do you think you will be needing a new turbo? you want to change it or is it smoking?

if you change to a larger turbo you will then need the car mapping whcih for the 98 means a new ecu and remap, you may know this already but didn't mention it..

How much would one of those turbos set me back?? Thanks for the re-map advise fortunatly i already knew about it as a friend had hers done at scooby clinic the other month.. what type of ECU would be best for it then??

Also i have got the dreaded 98 piston slap, anything to worry about the local Scooby mechanic said that nearly everyone of the 98 range does it..

mine has exactly the same starting problems as yours (99 uk turbo) ive foud if i turn the ignition fully on (but not start) and wait a few seconds for the fuel pump and what sounds like a solonoid click it then starts fine. But if i just turn the key all the way to start really quickly it does what you describe.

Ive got fault code 12 logged in my ecu which is Starter switch or Circuit, still trying to figure out what that is (possibly problem with immobiliser ? . Might be worth doing a read of your ecu and see if you have similar.
