Default Driving in floods

Is there anything I can do to stop the car sucking water in, I understand the induction system takes air quite low down and I probably have to drive through the floods tonight. Would it be a good idea to detach the induction pipe from the air box?

Cheers

Standard air induction is from behind the headlight (classic) or over the rad (newage), assuming you have an Impreza, so you can drive through water over 12" deep with impunity as long as you don't go silly. Not for nothing is it the 'farmers friend'!

I would tend to disagree with that as the resanator under the wing has got drain holes at the bottom of it. I dont know if water could be sucked up them? But i wouldnt want to chance it.

But as above the intake is on slam panel or behind headlight if standard

The water won't get sucked up, the intake air will take the line of least resistance, why try and suck 2litres of water up the resonator when you can just suck air in the place its meant to be!

I got stuck in the flooding on Friday, I went to birmingham to collect a set of wheels, then got stuck in the traffic coming home again, sat for 2 hours and then decided to get off and try and head for Stratford!!!! bad move, very deep flooding but the old girl sailed through without missing a beat. got back on the motorway and sat back in the que for another 2 hours and only passed a couple of junctions, got off and decided to head to Evesham!!!! even worse there, It was a good 9-10 inches deep. again the car had no problems. I got back on the motorway and again sat for another 2 hours near tewksbury only to find what was holding the trafffic up

this was the middle lne

this was the hard shoulder, lane 1 and lane 2!!!!

in the end we had to drive through about 9 inches of water in the fast lane

Apart from having to dry the brakes off after going through the water the car didn't miss a beat.

Don't think it would be such a good idea for me since I have a 100mm dia induction pipe running from the front bumper to the blitz air filter in the engine bay
