I have ACL as well in mine but, a mate is looking at a rebuild and would like some cheaper alternatives, Cosworth is one of these alternatives. I think it will be a case of stick with what is known tbh, it will be an expensivve and time consuming mistake if it goes wrong again!

There is nothing wrong with the latest O/E Subaru bearings available from RCMSor API. There are two ACL bearing sets, normal and slightly more expensive ACL Race. Then there are Cosworth.
My choice would be influenced by price with a preference for O/E subaru, ACL Race or Cosworth in that order subject to price and I would get a check price from Mark at Import Car Parts who has done me some cracking deals lately.

Standard bearings have a 'flash' coating which isn't ideal bearing material.
ACL don't have this and makes for a better bearing.
ACL all the way, no point on scrimping on a vital part like this IMO

Scoobysmiff posted this for me as i had no net access at the time. Basically guys this is a standard engine rebuild no power improvments so whats best im leaning towards ACL, the cossy ones are also trimetal so cant be that bad and as said litchfield run them in there engines. Thanks for the input so far guys.

The cosworth bearings are ACL "race series" bearings, they have the ACL engraving on them, which you can see through the vac formed package they come in.
Only the race series have no flash (corrosion protection) layer, so in paying more, for less, you get a better bearing. However I used the regular ACL "heavy duty" bearings for some years until the race series became available.
The current subaru OE big end bearings are of similar contruction to the ACL heavy duty bearings, tin over lead over copper. The much older bearings were aluminium on steel. The mains are still aluminium on steel, but if you're relying on better main bearings to save your engine, it's too late.
I would go with the cheaper (than subaru) ACL heavy duty bearings for "most" engines, they are now available at most leading parts suppliers/tuners, including Zen, API and RCMS amoung others.

I have ran ACL bearings in the racecar for the last 3 seasons. I change them annually as a preventative maintenance routine despite them looking as new !

I was going to suggest that this could maybe be the case. Cosworth use lot of other manufacturers to produce components to their spec. IIRC Kelford are the OEM for Cosworth cams.
