Question Error Codes

Hello

I have a Type UK MY02 STi and to be honest, I've always been disapointed with the way it goes low down in the rev range (1000-3000rpm).

I've had it mapped and it is a little better but still pretty crap. Goes like stink when you hit 4000rpm but rubbish upto 3000rpm.

Anyway, I decided to buy one of those ELM323 interface leads just out of interested. I downloaded the ECUexplorer program to try and do some datalogging but I cant get it to interface with the ecu through the ELM323 lead.

What I did do was read the error codes and I have 2.

I have:

P0103 - Mass air flow sensor circuit high input
P0113 - Intake air temperature sensor circuit malfunction (High Input)

What do they mean, as in do the above parts need replaced or is something else causing the fault codes?

I do notice a smell of unburt fuel on start up when its cold and the car splutters slightly when its cold. I suspect the faults are related with the above but are they anything to do with the sluggishness of the car low down the rev range.

Thanks for any help.

these 2 faults are both maf related, have you ever unplugged the maf?

try doing an ecu reset and then re checking the codes in a few days.

Yes, I unplugged it when changing the plugs, twice, compression testing it and changing the air filter.

That'll be 4 times now, why do you ask?

I was going to reset to codes but wanted to be the one to drive it first afterwards and the wife wouldn't be happy if it sarted miss behaving lol.

disconnecting it would of gave the fault codes when cranking over testing compression.

resetting it should sort the problem out

Ah, fair comment,

This wouldn't resolve the sluggishness of the car though would it as it was doing it previously.

It may do as having these codes stored may stop the ecu learning as a safety feature, As said clear the codes do a reset. Have a good blat around and check for codes again.

I've done that now, what a differance there is in the car

I'm really happy with the low down torque, turbo spools from 1500rpm and pulls from 2000rpm, this is about 750-1000rpm sooner than before.

Checked for codes again after about 10miles and nothing there

So, if I dont have a faulty mass air flow but the codes were there for what ever reason, would that effectively put the car into safe running. I read the fueling and ignition is effected by a faulty maf, would they be effective by the maf error codes?

Does anybody know if this should have shown up on a ecutek mapping session as the car was like this before I had it mapped.

Thanks again for the advice.
