hi guys got a problem! checked my oil last week and there was not much showing on the dipstick? thought this quite odd as i check oil levels regularly. anyway topped up the oil, put in a bit too muchh, not loads just say 1/4" past full on the dipstick, wasnt worried too much because i know scoobies use a bit of oil. went on a 200mile trip a week later, checked oil before the return journey and found it very low! the car does not seem to be smoking and is not dripping any oil so where is it going?? when i took the intercooler off a few weeks ago i noticed there was quite a bit of oil in it, is this normal? i presumed it was just from the breather pipes. any comments would be very welcome.

Two things:
Firstly, scoobs can be notoriously difficult to get a proper dipstick reading..! The only way is to check before starting in the morning and pulling dipstick, wiping then leaving out for 5 mins or so (can be put back half way) before dipping in the normal way ON A FLAT SURFACE..![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Secondly, they don't like being overfilled..! As you correctly assume, a lot of oil has been blown into the breather system and therefore the intake. Not good, as this oily residue considerably lowers the fuel octane rating increasing the likely hood of DET..!![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Due to the first, the second is quite a common error. Obviously, this may not be the case in your instance, but without evidence of an oil leak (ie driveway marks), it is most likely the problem.
Confirm there is not leak, get oil level right (ideally half way between two holes with a cold dip) then remove intercooler and pipework and wash out/clean with petrol/brake cleaner. To prevent future blow by you could vent the breather hoses to atmosphere..![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
NOTE dipstick has two holes for cold min/max and a top notch that's supposed to relate to max with hot oil..!
