Oil question / "problem"... HELP!
Hi guys,
I no longer have my Sti (moved to a current model R32 golf) but I have a general tech question that I know you guys can help me with.
Yesterday I was out of town and checked the oil during a petrol stop ... to find out that it was very low! I therefore immediately decided to top il up, however I was in a relatively isolated place on a sunday, and the best I could get was some crappy semi-sinth old (pre-Helix) Shell plus, called Shell Sint Plus 10w-40.
So I added 1litre of that to the 5w-30 full-sint that my R32 uses, thus ending up with a tank which now has 4/5 5w-30 full-sint Total and 1/5 10w-40 semi-sint Shell.
Since getting home I've been worrying about it ... is it quite ok, with the new crappy oil simply mixing with the vast majority of good oil, or is it better to head to the dealership for a full oil change ($$$)...???
Stressed for my new "baby" well being ... thanks for the advice!!!

TBH mate,i wouldn't think twice and about having the oil changed.
It's obviously your pride and joy and probably cost a lot of money so why even risk it ?
If it's not due a service, just buy the correct oil and take it to a small independant garage and have it done there.
Although you did the correct thing by topping it up,it really isn't worth the risk leaving it as it is - it'll need to be changed if you ask me.
On a lighter note, how are you finding the R32 after the Subaru ?
Cheers

Mixing the semi-synth with your fully synth wont cause you any problems, but as course I would get it changed at some point.. But I would be asking myself why am I loosing so much oil? 5w-30 is pretty thin.. how many miles has it done?

Thanks for the replies guys! The car has done 6000 miles, oil never changed so far, so 1liter of oil was used from new in 6000 miles of pretty high-intensity usage (Col de Turini twice, Stelvio, etc... ). So I thought that with the engine still tight it wouldn't be an excessive consumption.
Renny I'm really enjoying the R32, power is plenty, handling/balance great, love the DSG and the noise!
So given that 20% of semi-synth with 80% of synth won't do any harm (the dealer even told me so today, and you'd think they'd be keen to tell me otherwise and make me change it) ... but given that I am paranoid about the well being of my "baby" ... I've decided that I'll change the oil at the 10000 miles mark instead of the normal 15000, especially given that I push the car considerably.
Thanks for the advice guys!
