TD05 16g and 18g whats the diffence??
Looking into upgrading my turbo. It has been suggested that with my spec (see my scooby) I should get my Td05 convertered to 18g.
Is this the right way to go? or is there a better route? Where would I get such a conversation done local to Essex, or is there a trustworthy company that will do it via post.
Any idea on cost too?

yep could use a turbo upgrade
depending on power / spool up wish you have to decide which one.
However if going much further then 329bhp you might need stronger gearbox.
look at website of Andy F. for more info on price.

but there are more people around here which could help

On that engine I would go with the AFP16g it’s a very capable unit at around 340bhp and will be much better overall than your existing turbo..
This was you will retain more reliability as you will be pushing the capabilities of the box and engine at this level long term anyway.
With regards to the box remember it’s down to the toque that kills them. There are lots of cars running the wrx/sti boxes at this level without issue its really more down to use and abuse of the box its self., the type r and ra boxes are slightly stronger due to wider but teeth but have shorter ratios that some don’t’ like this. Its something you will probably need to consider at some point but its not a case of fit the turbo and the box will blow.

I think by the sounds of whats been said, I need to save my pennies for a rebuild and new box, then get a more extreme turbo eg 18g 20g?
380bhp to 400bhp is the aim, or at least considerably more torque.

Its the best way, 2.5 bottom end with drop in pistons will see you 400/400 on the 20g.
