Default ECUTEK 2 advise please

My current car has a ECUTEK 2 license at present. STi7 bugeye.

What I want to know is if I was to get the map adjusted to suit more my style of driving would it have to be a new Software upgrade ie ECUTEK 3 and to pay a whole new license fee ?

I thought it was more the ECU that has the license paid on it and you wouldn't have to fork out the £600+ license fee again apart from just the £250+ fee to adjust the map?

Can someone please confirm for me please?

Cheers ears

the way i understand it once the license fee has been payed on your ecu all you pay is about £150- £200 for a tweak providing you go back to the original mapper or a little bit more than that if you use a different mapper

Hey mate,

That's what I thought. But have been told otherwise that I would need to buy the whole new software again?

I'm not sure or not but I think my cars map was done by someone from ECUTEK directly?

Hi Steve,

As you are Surrey way I can plug laptop in and tell you when I am next over that way if you like.

I am able to Query the ecu with the Ecutek and tell you if it has a licence and who last programmed it.

As has been said it should have the licence in it, although it just depends on what level of ecutek the programmer used.. eg the ppp doesn't retain the licence.

Just for Info I had an "EcuTeK 2" remap on my Bugeye done about 4 - 5 years ago.......it was an "example / generic map" and the mapper simply came along and reflashed the ECU in the car park !!

Apparantly the mapper closed the Mapping session there and then..... so a few years later I had to buy a new licence

This was the car park / forecourt of my local subaru dealer who was offering "off the shelf" EcuTeK maps at the time about 2002 !

Am I the only one with a Subaru Dealer invoice for "chipping" the car LOL

What mods have you got? If there are standard maps out there it would be good to share them on here - or would this be breaking copy right laws or something??

The licence is how ecutek make money...fair do's as they have spent time developing the software !

To protect their investment the EcuTeK software needs a licence for each ECU mapped, rather like having an "EcuTeK key" to open the ECU for mapping.

You will need the EcuTeK licence to EcuTeK map the ECU even if the map is off the shelf.

Also, to protect the intellectual property rights of each individual mapper, One EcuTeK mapper cannot see the maps of the other.

There are other software packages that can re-flash the ECU for free but may not be so sophisticated.
