Default Impreza radiator fans problem!

Like folks!

I have a x reg impreza sports special which is an excellent car to drive.

However the only problem starting to arise is after a short journey, when you leave the car to idle or just tick over the radiator fans keep clicking on for 5 secs then switching off then switching on again and keep doing this.

There is plenty water in tanks and doesnt use any, and the car doesnt idle fast or slow just normal at right temperature.

Does anybody know what could be causing the fans to keep switching off and on would it be a sensor? or a fuse in relay box?

any help much appreciated.

Im not sure I understand this thread........the fans are there for a reason, they switch on to pull cold air throught the radiator core to cool the water when it reaches its temp threshold (91 oC).
This is normal.

I would be worried about the fans not coming on!

yeah folks the car has a/con, and has two radiator fans.

As i said i have feeling there must be sensors or maybe even a thermostat valve somewhere located that maybe is faulty causing them to keep running off and on.

The fans even sometimes come on when i start the car up from cold in the morning so must be a faulty switch etc.

Cheers

If your car has air con - and it is switched on - the fans will operate when the car is stationary to draw air through the air con radiator. This is normal!

If you turn the air con off, the fans should stop (unless the coolant temp is high, obviously!).

Sounds like you have the air con switched on, so nothing to worry about.

Check under the dash. There should be two sets of connectors, a black set and a green set. Normally, they should NOT be connected.

I thought I had a similar problem with my recent purchase, the fans kept coming on as soon as I started the engine. And yes, it was just because the a/c was switched on

Lol i feel quite just now but yes it was because the a/c con was switched on.

Lol we never get any warm days up here in the North of scotland but one freak day last week we did and I must of switched it on and never switched it of again and it works even when air switch in car is turned off.

Thanks again top class!
