How many newage owners have had issues with their MAF..?
Just wondering as mine 'may' be on it's way out..!![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Had a few random sparkles on KL at high RPM and according to the datalogging I've done a dodgy MAF could be the cause.
There's a bit of a corresponding dip of engine load/boost on the run that produced the KL red, that isn't evident on subsequent runs where the KL was silent (ie random).
From what I've researched on here you can get the MAF 'insert' for newage scoobs as per 99/00 classics, so ~£80..?
Would like to know how many others have had issues on newage cars as mine is just 3yrs old..!
BTW is the maf the same for ALL newage cars (is it possible to try an STI maf in a WRX for instance)..?

Engine load and boost could drop for other reasons aswell, if you had a slight misfire for instance or an airleak at high boost.
Failing MAF is more likely to result in a steadily falling MAF voltage and corresponding load index in the ECU.
If the car is mapped ask your mapper to check the datalogs and tell you what load index you were getting when the car was mapped and check this against your logging.

Have done and the drop is what's caught his eye. Also, I repeated the runs and the drop off wasn't present, neither was the KL red. Therefore seems random![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Video of KL= DET..? - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Immediately after, logged with no dips in load/boost:

RE slight mis-fire, might check plugs as iirc they've been in ~11 months and usually look a bit tired when removed at 12 months (PRF7b's BTW).
I recently fitted a Samco 's' hose in place of the corrugated one between turbo inlet pipe and MAF tube, however I had a few reds prior to fitting. Might just swap back for elimination purposes..!
Red hose here:

So am I getting this right, load and boost drop off would likely indicate over-fuelling (rich), hence the concerns that I'm loosing air somewhere along inlet or MAF is misreading..? But, if it's rich, what's causing the KL activity..?
Finally, have a green panel filter that I cleaned and re-oiled 6 months ago, I was careful not to over oil, but maybe this is something to think about..?
I would be intersted to know if there have been any blobeye's needing MAF's yet..?

i have just replaced my maf on my 51 bug eye wrx it drove alright but you put your foot down and it wouldn't rev as freely as it did so got a computer plugged and said it was the maf put a new one in its like a different car, suprised me what a difference it did make, like a new car, i don't know lots about these but alot of people have had engine failures from these so i wouldn't leave it to long to get it sorted just incase

MAF pic FWIW:
Looks clean...
![](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/jason5467/MAFdownstreamMedium.jpg)
But then again...
![](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/jason5467/MAFupstreamMedium.jpg)
and this looks OK...
![](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/jason5467/MAFinsideMedium.jpg)
Can anything be seen from these..?
Just checked for any air leaks (I presume they would have to be after turbo..?) and all seems well. The only thing I haven't checked properly yet is the bunged off PCV valve under TB, although iirc this closes under load anyhow..?
Thoughts please...

Having a similar problem with my car 04 plate wr1, boost seems to hold at 0.6 bar untill redline where it peaks at about 1.1 feels like its lacking power and holding back, had it checked by subaru, it came up with a code of boost reading low but that was probably due to me disconnecting the maf with the engine ruunning to test it.
Think im going to try and find someone who will let me try there's before i waste the money if it isn't actually the problem.
Does anyone know if maf reeding low is the code it would throw out if i disconnect the maf with it running or would that be something like maf failure??

Having phoned main stealer they recon it's not replaceable as a cartridge insert and therefore £275+ vat FFS..!
Yep, same here, I could do with trying someone else's MAF to eliminate anything else..!
Are all newage MAFs the same, regardless of UK/JDM/WRX/STI etc..?

You are right....it's available as a cartridge at about 70 quid plus VAT![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I had a spare 100% Newage MAF which was used when I originally mapped my Bugeye with Bob Rawle..I used to loan it out on SN FOC but it never came back one day !!
I'd buy a new MAF and take it from there![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Right I've reset the ECU and it appears to have resolved..!
Car seems to pull just as hard and is making same boost etc.
Obviously not mechanical noise etc, thoughts..???

Now it's back again, less than 10 miles after reset..?![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Also, data logging has picked up a knock signal from OEM knock sensor #1 a couple of times..!
Is this normal advance after a reset..?
All help appreciated..

Changed plugs as it's getting close to when I'd normally change them (annually) and they look very good to me (apart from orange tango..
), still gaped at 0.65mm..!

Doesn't look like there's anything wrong here.
Do plugs shows signs of det..?

Recently been having starting probs with my bugeye WRX. It will fire up and idle for about one second before it dies. Doesen´t do it every time and only first start of day i.e. cold. The engine has EcuTek mapping and my belgium mapper says possible MAF failure. Strange thing is that engine is pulling strong as normal and no strange KL or AFR activity. My local Subaru dealer says that I can only buy newage MAF as a complete unit at circa 300 £ + VAT :-(
So where do you guys get the cartridge part from?
When I think back problems started after I cleaned my Greenfilter airfilter.
Never seen orange sparkplugs though, what causes this?
