Talking ** Classic Tuning - Frontmount or Not, 'to be or not to be' **

Hiya,
Car is a MY99 STi5 RA WRC 555 LTD
Currently running approx 285bhp with;
Warlbro Fuel Pump
Green Panel Filter
Full Decat SS Exhaust System
EcuTek Remap

Need a bit more methinks and was looking at;
TD05/18G Turbo
550cc Injectors
Fuel Regulator (what type?)
EcuTek Remap again

Now I will be shortly getting a tilt kit and splitter for my Top Mount Intercooler.

Now big question... Do I *really* need to get a frontmount and therefore a different airfilter ?

I am after 330-340bhp so nothing too drastic.

Appreciate ideas and any suggestions/comments on the above please.

Regards, Ricky.

Thanks for the quick reply, also I was told anything over 360bhp and you really need to get some stronger internals on classics...

MY = Model year.
tmic = Top Mount Intercooler.
fmic = front mount intercooler...

Why not fit a bigger top mount?? i used a newage wrx one..... fairly easy to fit, nothing like the hassle of fitting the big STI one.... and i'm sure it gives benifits....!!

Yes been told makes a slight difference, but only with v8 Scoop.
Quite happy to keep existing TMIC with splitter and tilt mod if 340bhp fine.

Also have a newage STI topmount with a custom undertray/splitter, it has been well tested at normal speeds but pushed getting there, and there is no problem with temp. not really that hard to fit.

Hiya, I contacted the mapper who did this for the previous owner and it was mapped very conservatively by TSL on purpose for Optimax and for the mid 280's and not mapped for power. Quite why I do not know...
Previous owner was Mr safe ;-)

Thanks for all the voting and replies guys, I will let you know how things progress shortly. (I have some interesting pre-power mods to do...)

Keep posting!

With much the same mods + the Sti8 IC My Type R was mapped to 328bhp 310lbft and is still ok at that power.

I think the TMIC would be fine for your bhp target, however, once the boost monster gets you, well, you might as well get the FMIC!
