Default TURBO NOISE

hi

i have an 03 wrx with a hawkeye turbo fitted.Every thing has been fine.

Until tonight, it makes a loud whooshing noise when coming on boost and then starts hesitating.its like a hose is split somewhere?????

car drives fine all the time it is off boost,no warning lights evident.

Any ideas would be helpfull.

cheers

Sounds like a boost leak. Check all the boost pipes to the solenoid for splits. Remove the TMIC and look for any leaks around there too. It will be noticeable because there should be evidence of oil.

It sounds like the hose that runs from the turbo to the IC. It will probably let the turbo spool up very quickly and easily as there is little resistance. The problem you will have is that the engine will be expecting more air as the air has already been metred by the MAF and the ecu will therefore supply the fuel needed for that amount of air. It will be running rich when this happens and should make it cough and splutter.
