Default Apexi AVC-R setup

Hi, just back from the US where I picked up one of these bad boys along with some Auto Meter guages.

I'm going to install the boost controller today and just wanted to know if I could drive the car without having it setup if I need the car. Am I right in saying that if the controller is switched off then the car will run as standard?

My car is a UK MY99 so if anyone has any tips or hints on how to set up the AVC-r I'd much appreciate it as I've read throught the manual but it might as well be chinese in some places!

Cheers

Damien

Cool

hey

i was under the impression that the avcr replaces the oe boost controller so if u dont activate it...wouldnt u be running without a boost controller???

havaent had any experience with one on my car but my mate has one...was really easy to install and get working...it comes with a standard setting so ur car wont do anything nasty so u can still run around in it just remember to turn it on!!!!

Oh right. So I could add a high boost setting later on when I work out what's what.

Thanks mate.

Wiring sorted. Any ideas on what to remove/change on the plumbing side? I've located the two what-ya-macallits on the driver side. A pic or diagram would be good. The manual is a bit sparce unless I'm missed something.

Cheers

i think, if the avcr is switched to off, you will run wastgate pressure .06-0.8 bar on the classic i think.

Got it plumbed in. Someone tell me if this is correct or what can be removed further. Removed pipes from old controller. Left electrics plug in. Plumbed new controller to actuator and turbo housing. Left the factory MAP sensor connected and T'd the new sensor into the pipe between it and the other thing bolted to the bracket. It is also plumbed in and wired.

I'm not sure if I'm getting normal boost or not. Haven't looked closely at the dial when driving but it peak just past the 12 o' clock position on the screen.

RPM seems to be reading out too.

Any help welcome

What should it peak at?

Also do I still need the old MAP sensor hooked up along with the other thing (forget what it's called - connected to the MAP sensor)

I want to get rid of the crap I don't need and fix the new bits neatly. The old stuff makes space an issue.

Anyone got pics of there install?

Thanks

Damien

I've just installed it and not changed any setting yet as I don't have a clue where to start. So it's just running 'out of the box' pressure now.

Mine was actually running at .59 and was on setting A. I only found this out playing about with the settings. On 'OFF' setting it peaks around .49

Here are some pics i took of it plumbed in and what goes where.

It's a bit messy to look at now but now I know what's what I can start to shorten some hoses and give everything a proper home.

If anything else can be removed etc. feel free to comment.

The pressure exchange solenoid is the thing inline before the OE map sensor isn't it? It stays as far as I know. Mine is still plumbed in and plugged in as I thought unplugging it might throw up a fault light.
Old boost solenoid has to stay connected to the electrics too but can be moved somewhere out of sight.
