Problems
Hello
driving my sccob back from hols last week and my temp was at the top. pulled straight into a garage and the bottom hose had come loose and leaked almost all the coolant out. had it tightend and filled back up. it doesnt overheat now but its gets to medium very quick few mins and it starts bubbling, the pipes get very hot and the rad is stone cold..
been told head gasket but iam hoping its not, no smoke.
any help would be great, only had it few weeks..

ok i have very similar prob i have a 99 2000 turbo s reg i have been advised by a subaru speacialist that headgasket is very unlikly thermostat possibly radiator may be bunged up as stated before aand you may need to get the system pressure tested like i will be getting done soon the bottle at the front passenger side is a water resiviour which should be ok just top up the tank driver side half way up engine (the do not open when hot top on it lol) but do not put cold water in a hot engine i top mine up in morning and is ok for couple of days new to subaru ownership to hope this helps

If it's lost all the water and had to be refilled , may have an air lock , check for bleed screws in pipes to heater matrix and by thermostat housing and top of rad . Set heater to hot and bleed air from cooling system .Then test again .

thermostat is connected to the bottom rad hose (engine side) it connects to a little housing which is held on by 2 x 10mm head bolts. If you undo these and remove the housing (may need a gentle tap) it will come off and then you will be able to see the thermostat and remove. To test it, put a pan on the stove and boil it up, put the stat in it. If it is working correctly the stat will start to move. BE careful when removing the stat from the boiling pan as metal does tend to burn
