Default Ecutek valve - swirl for combustion - does it work?

Hey there,

Anyone fitted the Ecutek Air valve thingy that's supposed to improve fuel consumption? Is it worth the 40-50 notes price tag? what improvements have you seen and what noise does it make without the filter?

It draws unmetered air in, so unless you fancy melting a piston I wouldn't bother.

Cheers Jim, already thought of that as she's due some mapping next year for a motorsport pump - would it make a difference even if mapped?

Hey,

Blimey, really ref "screeching noise"...is the noise really that bad? It's not like normal induction noise...already not liking the "sound" of it lol.

Also talking to my mapper ref it working in vac as my motor runs rich in that area due to the cams so wonder if it could help or not...prob load of toff but will wait and see.

Unless you're running a MAP based ecu you couldn't map it for the extra air as you wouldn't know how much was being drawn in, plus if you're mapping the ecu all you have to say is map for economy and not power then jobs done properly, but TBH it makes me laugh when people own a car that's made for power, whether standard of modified, and then go chasing economy, why buy the car if you can't afford to feed it!

Cheers Jim, makes sense...not worth it. Just to explain I'm not being cheap here...my car does about 5 mpg with race grade fuel but the reason I thought about this unit is my wild cams make the car run rich/lump below 2500 and wondered if this unit would help at all.

One thing you have to remember, and I'm not sure how many of the above know this, but the device works via negative pressure and will shut under positive pressure ie boost! So, set as per instructions, the risk of melting a piston is remote. Any effect will be felt off boost, so unless you want the change in this area (which you do?) the device has little effect on a turbocharged car.

Thanks Johnd...

My mapper has said dont bother so I'll go with that, he says my car doesn't run rich as such as the ECU is trying its best to run the correct mix, its just the cams pushing out more unburnt fuel/air mix at low revs due to the over lap - dont think that device would make much difference since there's no burn involved at the problem areas.
