URGENT HELP REQUIRED PLEASE - CALLING ALL EXPERTS
Not a scoob but my girlfriends car (a 2000 Ford Puma 1.7)
It has an irratic problem whereby it will not go in to gear
I have checked the brake / clutch fluid level which is fine, I have checked for leaks.. none, I have checked it will go into all gears when the engine is not running..fine, so that rules out the gear box at fault.
It just seems to go into gear when it wants to and stop the rest of the time so I assume it's something clutch related
As a new clutch was fitted about 1.5 years ago I don't think it is that specifically
Fitted a new master cylinder thinking it was that but again the car was fine one minute and the next not going into gear again.
Should I replace the slave cylinder next?
ANY help appreciated (she can't get to work! )
Thanks

puma
hello chap.
if your clutch pedal feels fine then its the clutch. i feel sure its this year of the puma that the clutch fork bends there for not being able to select gears some of the time.
the easy way of checking the slave cylinder is to pull the rubber back and check for any oil leaking. if there is a little oil then is drawing air.
there is a couple of things for you mate

Being a year 2000 car I would assume it has a Hyrdaulic release bearing (i.e. no cluch slave cylinder as the release bearing and piston are the same part)... Normally this part is very expensive and not replaced with the clutch plate (albeit that it should be).. You'll probably find its on its way out..

If it is anything like my Mrs' KA (and I think it is) then her clutch pedal was depressing and not coming back up. Had to pull it up with my toe! The gears wouldnt engage. In the end I got a clutch and slave cylinder, as the slave cylinder is in the box itself, so it would have been a mistake to leave the clutch when the box was off. Clutch and slave cylinder were only £77, so not too pricey. Hope this helps.
