I think you will find that those starts have simply 'burnt' off the residues that build-up in daily driving.
The smell does last for ever it seems (personal experience)
I have done over 120 drag (hillclimb) starts in my Sti V3 with an AP Organic @ 370 x 350 and all is well and smell-free.
If the clutch does slip/pop then the job is hard work on your own on a garage floor with axle stands, or you can take it to Welcome to the API website and they might even do it while you have a (long) wait.
AP clutch is £400, and about 4 to 6 hours labour I think.
Getting the box off the back of the engine block is normally the worst bit due to corrosion of the parts together.
