New MAF needed with 20g or not ?
I've heard that my MAF on my '96 wrx might need changing to handle the 20g i've fitted otherwise it will limit the power I can run.
Can anyone throw any light on this ? I have a green label MAF and i'm hoping for around 380bhp or maybe 400bhp if i'm very lucky

Simon,
I'm going to be facing a similar problem soon when I put a 2.5 into my 1993 WRX, are there any other sensors that will need changing? I have read that the MAP sensor will need changing, or else a boost controller would need to be fitted, which would be best in your opinion?
Is the Z32 MAF a simple plug in with no modifications?

Apexi AVC-R is still the daddy of boost controllers..
the Z32 is reasonably simple fit.. need to rewire the maf though and then the map needs sorting for it.

I,m not sure as Paul(zen)fitted it to my my99 sti ra as the v5 maf was going to be to weak for future power levels......shortly after i opted for an Autronics ecu any way so no longer needed.....The car is only used a couple of times a month so sensor will be good as new.
I,m sure Paul can vouch for this...

I,m pretty sure the orange label maf was the daddy of the impreza classic range!!!! And am positive it will handle the power as i was looking for around 400hp at the time..Best to ask your tuner though..

I posted ages ago when I got my Z32 ... got an ebay one from USA with plug / wiring tails, but was dodgy on mapping ( lost signal to 0v ... should not happen! ) so searched and found one direct from Japan or Australia, new, Z32 80mm ( I think ? std scooby is 70 as has a narrowing of the inner neck? Anyway 10mm wider) MAF for about £120 shipped?
Works a treat!

Outer diameter possibly the same, inner no narrowing so should fit pipework. I had an adaptor already for cone filter that bolts to the MAF lugs so no need to change that end.

Its got an adaptor bolted to it to suit a K&n filter which i have not used in the Mafless intake i have built...
The adaptor measures 95mm which fits into the K&n filter that i use..

I've just measured my adaptor and the vertical holes measure about 55mm and the horizontal holes measure about 90mm so it won't fit !
I think i'll just try and get the Z32 maf which is 80mm so my filter will fit straight on.
Thanks anyway

Yes. Newage sensor is the most reliable plus you can get link pipes cheap as chips to locate them in the charge air stream.
Only really suitable for FMIC conversions incase anyone was wondering.

Andy, does it provide more resolution by changing it to blow through? Have you ever maxed out any newage blow through maf sensor? Currently I'm running 3" maf sensor and it is almost maxed out.

No change to resolution, I have maxed one out in a std 65mm tube around 480bhp, an 80mm tube sorted that though, should be good for over 700bhp.

Hmm interesting thread, and something I hadnt considered when I rebuilt my engine and slung a 20G at it (still running in at the mo!)
I am running a PFC on a built ej20 (1997 JDM WRX) with a 20g. Do i need to be worried about my maf maxing out or can it be rescaled using a data loggit?
Hopefully Andy F will be able to answer this, as I am hoping to book him for its remap in Jan 08
