Project RA
Hi Guys,
I might be buying my STi V2 RA back a year... its got a blown engine, which I blew before I sold it a year ago!
Anyways, I know have the time and money to sort it properly!
So the question is what would you do in terms of engine spec?
I've got a budget in mind of about 3-4k and I am a competent mechanic (work for BMW).
2.5?
2.0?
What turbo?
Alex

is it pretty much standard and do you intend keeping it that way?
the answers to your questions depend on what you want from it..
if the 3-4k budget needs to include engine management, intercooler, injectors, turbo, block, heads (you haven't said if it was just a big end or whether the heads or block is damaged) etc..

Heads are fine.
Block has been rebored (but I don't have to use).
It destroyed a crank and a rod.
4k is a felxible budget, just a rough amount to get strated on.
Mainly I plan to use the car for trackdays and the nurburgring.

You'll probably end up spending a good 600 or more on replacement parts you won't initially think about.. like you should replace the oil cooler / modine as debris will cause another failure if you risk reusing it. Headgaskets, cam cover gaskets, exhaust gaskets, oil, oil filter, cambelt etc etc but that cost will be similar whcih ever route you go.
You should be able to get a new 2litre short engine for around 1000.. job done for around 1000 + misalignious above..
you could get a standard 2.5 short engine for 1500 + above but you would then need the car mapped to run it so plus an engine management - assuming you haven't got one already.. so another 800.. 2300+above (nearing your budget).
Or you could get a 2.5 with replacement pistons for around 2200ish.. plus management and misalignious etc..

Slight update:
Current parts I now have (from the presious owner mongo on here):
REbored 2 litre block
Malah Psitons
Arrows rods
Cometic Heag gaskets
Looks like thats the plan!
Is a t05d20g a good turbo for say 350-400 bhp?

From: 10.68 QT mile in 2007 2.33 Type R ** Current 2002 Spec C 2.33 Track prepped.
Yes it seems fine for the power you want, however closer to 400 would denote the 20g and closer to 350 the 18g the smaller of the two will have less lag other things considerd.

Cool thanks guys.
As for management I haven't decided yet. I can build and map MegaSquirt, but I'm not sure I want to start pulling the wiring apart.
Is the software for the ESL Daughter board software avaible to the general public or it suppliers only?
