Cool How much power will i get????

Hi folks,
i have a 1999 RB5 with a hayward and scott downpipe, full blitz nur-spec exhaust, walbro 255 pump, and induction kit fitted, and a greddy boost controller (it boosts at 1.2 high boost, 0.8 low boost settings) with no probs of boost cut etc!!

Im going for a few more mods now in a week or two and was wondering what u guys think about the power i should be at after they are done.

Im getting a set of flat4online gt spec stainless headers, up-pipe, autobhan88front mount intercooler and....the best bit ... ....a haltech ecu and the whole lot mapped!! ....so any ideas what power i should have now with all these mods done??

Im keeping the TD04 for now till after christmas as i havent the money to do it all now, but i will be hoping for a much bigger turbo later along with bigger injectors and maybe a 6 speed box at some stage!!

Im hoping for maybe 340/350bhp when im done....do any of you guys have a similar state of tune or any experiences with the haltec ecu or could recommend a turbo for me??

The guy doing my work over here in northern ireland is a well known tuner and runs a 700bhp legacy and ive seen and experienced some pretty fast stuff hes built so iv no probs trusting his recommendations but just wana get an idea of what i should expect from all these mods!!

P.S Forgot to mention my car had a rebuild 2500 miles ago and got a later version crank and pistons, uprated oil pump and group n head gaskets etc so should be ok for a wee bit more power than standard

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks folks

Kevin

can you not get it ecu-tek'ed or is the rb5 a 98 spec ecu? i'd leave the aftermarket ecu and get a turbo if it has a99 ecu

Well my tuner says the standard ecu is much more limited, and i will get more power from the haltech ecu and it is far easier/cheaper to program an aftermarket ecu later when i add more and more mods etc, and he also prefers these as they do away with the MAF etc which iv had 3 of in the last 12 months due to them going faulty!!

Yeah the 99 ecu can be mapped or ecu tek'd ok but a lot of people seem to favour getting rid of it and fitting an aftermarket ecu cuz of things like the MAF etc. I have me haltech ordered and paid for now anyway

What mods have u got yourself??

Is your tuner selling you the Haltec..???

As said before, I would get a turbo instead of an ecu, and even before headers/FMIC...

i see your point with the MAf and if the ecu is bought all well and good.just thought for your target bhp of 320-340 the standard ecu could cope.most guys on her go maf-less with over 400 bhp.

anyway, not long after selling my 06 sti which had around 320bhp or so.standard enough spec just an exhaust, fuel pump and bob rawle remap.so i am scoobless right now but am on the hunt for a good classic sti

Is the haltec a piggyback?

Is there any management that you can plug out old, plug in new like some the Evo's and Honda's have?

Haltec do both but I think poster was talking about the piggy back..

Lots can be swapped.. Apexi, Simtek, Link, Gems etc.. or an EcuTek remap of the original ecu.

Roughly how much are we talking for either EcuTek remap, standalone or piggyback?

Not bad prices. Pity you're over the water from some of us. There is a limited number of mappers in N.I so prices can be a bit steep.
Nice site too btw good clean layout.

The haltech unit in question is a full stand alone unit and not the piggy back haltech 'interceptor' as its named on the haltech website. If i could afford it i would do the same but for my power gains im gonna opt for a VF35 plus what i have already got and an ecutek remap.

RB5 boyo to answer your question, at the min u know yourself its the small TD04 which is restricting your power, it wont make much more than 280 maybe upto 300bhp at most depending on the mapping which im sure will be top drawer.

once u get a bigger turbo and with all your supporting mods plus the strengthened rebuild you could push it over 350? again the turbo and the mapping will be the limiting factor, a VF35 will be maxed at 340-350 and be more comfortable around 320-330bhp ud prob need to go down the route of a TD05 18 or 20g to go between 350 and 400bhp...either way it will make for a very quick impreza thats for sure 400bhp in a car weighing 1230kgs =

good luck

Barry

PS jolly green monster id be intrested in an ecutek remap, theres one to the list already :-)
