tdo6 turbo ???
Been looking to upgrade my turbo and initonally was looking at the tdo5 or vf34 as a direct replacement which would give me a nice fast 350 = bhp car.
I have just been looking on the net and found a td06 turbo which is appaently good for 450-500 bhp at 0.8 bar boost with supporting mods on a ej20 engine.
Does anyone know about these turbos or f this is true ?? Also want to know what they are like to have on a car i.e. laggy etc
any help would be gratefully received
cheers
Tony

From: South Wales, Scoobless, Type R is gone!
There are a few different versions of TD06 turbo about, some are capable of 450+bhp but IMHO would be very laggy on a 2.0 and you would probably need a built 2.0 (forged piston and rods etc)
Personally for a 2.0 road car i think a TD05 18G is plenty big enough, should be good for 360-380bhp and retain drivablilty. Most people tend to go for TD05 16G or VF35 /34/28 turbo all good for around 330-350bhp
I use a VF34 at the moment and think it's very good for a road car.
Should be for sale shortly

AndyF does the AFP6-49 which is a bit of a beast. Based on the TD06, it is capable 400+, but as said, will be laggy on the 2.0, especially if you haven't got avcs.
Have a look on AndyF's website as he has some good write ups on there.

But so I dont seem biased, remember, he is selling them but as most will agree, Andy doesn't sell rubbish.
The whole site is a good read even if you decide to do something else anyway.

I bought Alan Bell's TD06-49 and have it fitted to my 2.2 wagon. It produces 350bhp at 1.3 bar and pulls like a train. I am very happy with the turbo and once I get the actuator swapped over I expect to see 400bhp at about 1.5-1.6 bar.
Depends what you actually want. The TD06-49 is a true 400bhp capable turbo, I don't find it particularly laggy and it more than meets my power needs. True, there may be more 'in vogue' turbos around at the moment (and by all accounts they are better in terms of spool/outright power) but you can pick up a TD06 for a lot less money and make excellent power.
I wouldn't be too sharp to just dismiss this turbo outright - it would be a boring world if we all drove around with the same turbo!!

From: Nottingham with 620BHP & 530lb/ft @1.5bar boost on road fuel.
We have 4 variants of 'TD06' turbos for power outputs of between 420bhp & 520bhp. Spool to 1bar on a 2.0L varies from 3000rpm to 3800rpm.
Also, if you have a turbo with a 49lb wheel and it's struggling to break 400hp (with a good set up) than the turbo has not been designed correctly.
