Default Fuel Cut when low on fuel

Any way to get around this apart from fill her up ?

i mean, ive got about 1/4 tanka and when tanked round a roundabout or bend i get the fuel cut then it stops asi get straight and makes for the embarassing scenario of acceleration, fuel cut,hic hic acceleration and jolting of heads, not good

why does it do it, i mean, surely the fueldoesnt move that much in the tank to starve the car of fuel ????

It shouldn't be "that" bad.

You'd have to really chuck the car about like your trying to kill yourself (or the car/tyres) for it to happen - which is why its common on track days.

However, I suggest the problem may be amplified if the fuel pick up strainer is clogged, or it needs a new fuel filter. Or if the fuel pump is marginal (on its way out - it should flow about 3litres a minute - 2 litres/min minimum iirc).

Also if you have an aftermarket "performance" fuel pump, I have noted the pick-up on some doesn't reach down as far into the bottom of the fuel tank as the factory pump - obviously making iyt more likely to suck in a glug of air during hard cornering.

no so sure about that, I have one exit from a roundabout that is a fast left hand bend (only about 150yrds from the roundabout), and if I have less than quarter of a tank its like hitting a brick wall...very, very unpleasant. The first time it happened I thought the world was about to end

not had an issue with it since i fitted a walbro with a new pick-up...and watched my fuel level

This is something I've never had and I always run hard to fuel light (and sometimes well beyond)..!

However, as a precaution, when I uprated fuel pump I did add 'Floyds Hose' to the fuel return..

yup, exactly the same as me,only happens on bends/roundabouts, i canbe brimming it and on a straight no problem, just round bends, its annoying, when im low on fuel is the only real time i cain it as with a full tank i want it to last etc, if im flling up next day etc i can drive more aggresivly.

i have an 04 wrx fuel pump fitted to my classic, it did it with the original classic fuel pump as well

ah well............

Fit one of these. They're quite pricey but do the job: mine used to surge at anything under half a tank, now it's fine at full power on a quarter (not dared go lower though - the surge is painful!).

Alternative is the old racer's favourite:

Swirl pot in the engine bay. Just need a decent inline fuel pump (I've previously used inline pumps off a pre 1990/ post 1982 Jag V12 as they have a pretty good flow rate).

They wok well but dont solve the problem altogether which is a shame for the money it costs.

I have one but still get surge from 1/4 tank on uphill long corners such as Bergwerk.

Obvious answer would be to get someone to knock up a bigger box for the bottom of the device. I assume that in your case the box is being emptied faster than it can be filled, if the bend lasts long enough?

The problem with that is getting the bugger back into the tank afterwards

Great idea though, it may be possible
