Boost problem
Hi guys, got a quick question for you! I've always had a sort of 'weird' acceleration problem with my car ever since I got it.....and I have asked about it on here before, and the first question everybody used to reply with was "what is ur boost gauge reading?" and I never had one so I couldn't answer! Well now......I've finally got one.....so I can answer the question!
Okay.....so my problem is that when I accelerate in say 4th or 5th (foot pretty much flat down)....the car seems to pick up really well....calm down....then pick up again....then kinda settle down again. It's not rough at all, it's smooth.....it's as if I'm just gently lettin off the throttle then puttin my foot back down again sorta thing. So anyway, after a few days of normal driving, I looked at the peak value on my boost gauge, and it was about 17.5psi. So I set my peak warning thing to come on at 18psi, so I could tell if I was 'overboosting' or whatever. I don't really understand all that, but yeah........lastnight then, lovely straight bit of road, I thought I'd try my old problem......so in 5th, I put my foot down.......and wahey the car is off.......the boost gauge flashed red (went over 18psi) and then calmed down to about 15ish (couldn't really watch it in too much detail while I was accelerating!) and then straight away it flashed red again and then settled down again to a contstant 15ish. So it kinda overboosts......TWICE????? What is that all about?!? My peak value now is 18.5psi. I'm guessing I could get more boost than normal lastnight cuz it was so lovely & cold. Weather I mean, not the car lol
So yeah, is this bad? Is 18.5psi boost mentally high for a slightly modded classic? (ninja sports cat downpipe, afterburner de-cat centre section, hayward & scott backbox, sti panel filter) Or is it about right do ya reckon?
Any advice would be muchly appreciated cheers guys

iff ist not been maped i would say running 18 psi is to much. (have you got a boost controler off some sort?) .
my RA has got a z5ecu h&s center& backbox/ hks panel filter. and boost to just under 14psi =1bar
oh could it not be a coil on it way out

The level of boost it's able to hold constantly is around about 14-15ish.....it only ever goes higher than that for a split second like, then settles back down. So that is the overboost yeah?

Dead turbo, thats just to start. Then possible engine damage.
If you cant get a dawes device, an electronic boost controller would help to limit the boost.
But I would recommend a remap, just even to get the benefit of all mods fitted. If money is tight, go for the cheaper option the ESL live mapping route. £550 + vat, fitted.
