Question

Can anyone tell me what a Magnex DP/centre/BBox OR centre/BBox exhaust sounds like from INSIDE the car? I'm thinking about upgrading my '96 WRX soon but I do a lot of motorway miles. Is the internal noise increased?

Ian,

I run a Magnex DP/non resonated centre/backbox.
There is more noise inside the car but it is very easy to live with on motorway driving for example. There is a nice burble but it never gets excessive or to the point where its going right through you. Thats part of the reason I went for a Magnex, so that the motorway cruising would be fine. It is definately one of the quieter ones out there while still giving a nice noise and also sounds nice outside the car. It is much quieter than HKS, BPM, ScoobySport and ScoobyMania.

Hope that helps
Cheers
Neil.

Hi m8

I have a Magnex Back box fitted to a MY98 and the noise is great on short journeys but any longer than 45mins without the stereo on would drive me mad. Looking at sound proofing the boot as it tends to boom. Noise ok at +85mph but v boomy at 60 - 80mph.

Cheers

Cool

we at first put on a magnex bb, sounded great when idleing and toeing it!!! on the moterway it magicaly goes quite at about 3500rpm (around 85mph)
we drove 2000 miles to the south of france and back and there were no complaints from the mrs. We then put on a jap inovations decat centre section, it is now quite noisy at motorway speeds but is worth it when blasting through tunnels or past walls, windows wide open!!! it has to be one of the most adictive engine notes on the planet + miles better than a hover (sorry evo 6)!

Halfords is about 170 quid for the DP (I got free fitting ) the BB is 208 (Ripspeed had an offer on exhausts got it for 170) and the centre is about 110 quid if the resonator and 56 without if you can still find it without, I think it was being phased out. Roadrunner Motorsport supplied my centre, can't remember contact info though

If you want the zorst delivered I think www.motorsportworld.co.uk is one of the cheapest.

hope that helps

So - let me get this right.

To get better performance, I need a full sysytem, but then I losy my centre CAT which will make me fail the MOT.

So, do I keep the standard mid-pipe, keep the standard down-pipe or keep both?

I can't be arsed, nor can afford to keep changing them all when the MOT is due, or is the money worth the performance increase?

Downpipe gives most power so do that and keep the centre cat. If its well warmed up before the MOT should pass........
