Next step for bug eye power

Next step for bug eye power
I currently have a 2001 bug eye WRX
It has...
Panel filter,
resonator removed,
2nd Decat,
Prodrive back box,
Prodrive ECU,
Prodrive boost pipe.
So its basically up to PPP standard.
I would like to decat it further... either one or both of the remainder. What do people think to this? Is it safe to do without remapping? Expected increase in responsiveness and power?
Cheers,
Mark.

i also have a 2001 bugeye,mines a import so has a bit more power,than a uk,
i done a full decat system, the prodrive system you have on yours are not really that good (have removed 2 ov me mates )and if you want a good system go for a 2.5" or 3" stainless steel full decat system,i got mine 2nd hand for £250 and it sounds a lot better than a prodrive does but its not too over the top,
as for other mods try a induction kit and dumpvalve, get some really nice sounds from these (mines a k&n and baileys dv) with the above mentioned mods you should see a extra 20-30 bhp, mine had no problems still has standard map

the ppp map is just a generic one and may not cope (in truth not sure so might be worth asking) with the full decat, fully decatting and remapping will see an increase. after that your looking at new turbos, injectors etc.
depends how far you wanna go and what your budget is

Well a couple of decats runs to a couple of hundred quid and can be spread out which is ideal.
Fitting the decat i have currently has made a great difference, so wanted to do more really.

I thought you already had ? What non standard exhaust bits does your car have - just the centre pipe replaced ?
Remap is a about the best bang for your buck you can get after you've done the exhaust bits, as Tidgy says.

take out more than one cat and you get the dreaded CEL light on, not really a problem, just annoying and it can be fixed quite cheaply. Wont pass an MOT tho unless you put the cat back in

As said remap would be the best "value" for money. It could be worth thinking about at around £550ish. If you wanted more power Walbro fuel pump, STI intercooler, STI injectors and STI Turbo if you want around 310-320+bhp. (Around £6-700 used)+ fitting then mapping the ECU for the above.
Alot depends on how much you want to spend, if you whip off all the cats the Check Engine Light could well come from the different readings without the cats and the more restriction could allow extra boost without the fuel to match which can expensive lesson if you go too lean.

Ok - sports cat downpipe, Walbro pump and remap will see you to 280 bhp or so. Feels good, revs quite a bit more freely with that sportscat and makes cool turbo spool sounds too ! Spools a bit lower too.

yer this looks like the winner... 100 cel sports cat downpipe.
can someone canfirm this wont bring up a CEL ?
Was also thinking of swapping the mid section for a straight through, but the silencer on this part doesnt actually block the pipe so to speak?

Just had a cat-back 3" Milltek system put on mine, and had the ECU remapped using a Dyno-dynamics rolling road. I was already running a Green panel filter.
It was making 209bhp before the remap, and it took it up to just under 250bhp.
Paramount Performance who remapped it recommended to get even more from it, the best bet would be to go for a forge recirc valve (rather than a VTA which are apparently only decent with big power) and a sports cat (or decat) down pipe. They reckoned I'd gain around an extra 30bhp with the whole lot fitted on top of what I already have.
Performance-wise the remap has made the car a lot easier to drive at lower speeds; the clutch is less juddery, acceleration is smoother and boost seems to build earlier so there's less lag. If you're serious about adding proper decat pipes I'd say you'd be daft not to have it remapped. My local subaru mechanic who works for a dealer runs an STI that makes just under 400bhp and he said getting the car rolling roaded is a much better option than just sticking the default prodrive map in.
Just my two-pennies' worth! Hope that helps.

The wife has just been through this with her 01 Bug WRX PPP, she had the following fitted :-
STi 8 TMIC
STi 8 Injectors
VF36 Turbo
Prodrive sport cat down pipe
STi 8 up pipe
3 port
and the remap
produced a very nice 330bhp, has totally transformed the car however the final results all come down to what you're willing to spend.

im basically after around 290bhp. Should be running aroun 260-265 atm as its running the newer prodrive ECU.
Sports cat does sound about right as the next mod.
Whats the difference between the sti and wrx intercoolers?
