Default Induction Kits and Cold Air Feeds....

Which is the best combination to go for?

How would i get a cold air feed to the air box or induction kit?

I've got a APS CAI and it made a whole heap of difference when fitted in conjunction with porting headers and downpipe, along with some more tweeks to my Map.

Most on here say to stick with the original airbox rather than the induction kit, but im sure someone with more knowledge than me will be along to advise you shortly. What year is car?

Its a 2000 w reg uk turbo

i have always been told that there is no point modifying a car until you have the 3 basics sorted first. these being
- decent air feed
- decent spark
- decent fuel

If you have an under bonnet inductions kit, you can get heat shields. If you're using a Cold air induction, there's several ways to get a cold air supply.

Through the fog/driver light covers, or you could try a sidescoop:

I have an APS CAI like Bodski. I fitted the pipercross cold air feed into the fog cover. Works a treat! Had it colour-coded for more stealth.

thanks for the quick responses guys

have you got anymore details on the fog/driver light covers?

i used to use a pipercross viper carbon kit on my vectra and it was very effective. does it give the same gains on the impreza?

If your thinking of running a CAI then your only going to get good results in conjunction with remapping. The increased air flow makes the engine run very lean without it.

Can also play up the MAF on classics due to the increased airflow.

The newage MAF's are supposed to be more robust.

Keep the standard airbox to preserve the maf,fit an uprated panel filter, remove wing resonator, run a tube/pipe from the front bumper wedge to the back of the airbox where the resonator used to sit.....

Earlier maf's before the my99/00 were fairly robust so can stand the extra vibration that a non standard intake can develop during use..... 99/00 cars are best left with the original air box and treat the maf as a servicable item and rep[lace every year...... saying that i keep an eye on the readings on mine and am still on the original item i believe.....

Satancom........ thanks, though just very slightly naughty compared with many on here

I have an STI Panel filter fitted...... I know there are probably better aftermarket filters out there but as the STI filter is a subaru item it kinda justifies buying it I think.

Take the fog cover off a newage sti and it's straight into the inner wing, which with the APS CAI, is where the filter sits.

Drill a hole in fog cover, with holesaw (think 3") for the Cold Air Feed trumpet, glue it into place (use clear glue ). Screw piping onto back of trumpet, cut to size and point at filter. Replace fog cover.

Shouldn't take more than 30 mins.

Need to map though, as will run ultra lean.

The pipercross kit is available from halfords, for about £25, has all the parts you need. There's also enough parts to make two cold air feeds. So i was able to sell half the kit.

Colour-coded the trumpet for free and et voila. Cheap cold air feed that doesn't stick out like a two foot dick.

Why bother though, the standard airbox is an enclosed box to stop heat affecting the air entering the system, its not restrictive till about 350 bhp,fit an uprated panel filter, add a cold air feed pipe and you have the same at a fraction of the cost....

Yes but if you have a front mounted intercooler you have no choice but to fit an induction kit. Just wondering why nobody seems to use these types of induction kits on scoobs?
