Thread theft (kind of)
I already have upped my MY98 intercooler to an Autobahn88 one, but on mapping temperatures seemed very high anyway (running up to 50 deg C as soon as boost came on). I haven't been able to compare to the original one but does anyone have efficiency-figures for original, Autobahn88 TMIC, STi8 TMIC, Autobahn88 TMIC for STi8. And matbe for FMICs as well just to drive home the point that that is what I should get... ?

You will find it quicker, easier and cheaper to fit a tube and fin front mount and you will also get better results.
I say this from my experience of fitting an STi 8 TMIC to my STi 3 Wagon at 335 bhp at the time and from fitting numerous FMICs with one on my WRX M/Y 95 Wagon 422 bhp. On my own cars, air charge temperature is monitored and I have been doing that since the cars were fitted with O/E TMICs.

if i was to go the fmic route what else is effected i.e d/v, rad, bumper and so on. Is it easy for me to simply buy a fmic kit and fit it myself?

Morgy, I have an 05 WRX TMIC (came off after a few k, so as new, no bent fins) which is supposed to be a good upgrade for the classic, without to much hassle. This is quite a bit bigger than any classic TMIC, although not quite as big as the STI 08>, hence a little easier to fit..![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
See post #7 below for size comparison:

It's currently wrapped up in my garage taking up room, so PM me if you're interested..

Morgy has a Classic and the TMIC on these is a weak spot.
Fitting an STi 8 TMIC to a Classic is a PITA. I know as I have done it.
There will be a number of reasons, including the fact that advances in top mount design over the last 10-12 years means that a Type 25 at standard power output is not streaching an O/E TMIC beyond its capability.
Other reasons will probably include production cost, installation considerations and packaging.
For a definative answer, ask Subaru.
Morgy. You can buy a FMIC kit and fit it yourself. Your BOV is reused but you will need a cone induction kit and the bumper does need cutting but that does not present a big problem. If you are fitting a replacement TMIC you will need the appropriate under tray and scoop to obtain reasonable results.
If you want detailed information on either, then drop me an e-mail with your phone number.

If the front mounts are so good, why does the Type25 not use one?

You can find it at flat4 among others, but:

More pics in: SSI Galleriet :: Cashkiller
It's thick, but not wider than original IC, I'm hesitating whether to buy a second-hand STiv8 IC and do what I need to to fit it, but it's probably not so much better than the Autobahn one I already have....
