Default Assistance with breathers please. Tell me what goes where!

Hello people!!

Right, got the manifold off the car and need to sort out a couple of things. (MY98 WRX)

I have previously removed the breathers from the inlet trubo hose and vented them to atmos as this was the easiest thing to do with the manifold in place.

Now the manifold is off, I want to sort it properly. So, I have 3 areas to sort from the engine block/heads.

There are breathers from each head and then the one from the crankcase that goes to the PCV. What do I with them to stop the gases going into the inlet at all?

These are the areas. Ignore the coolant pipe.

Also, I need to know what happens if I junk all of the pipes to the carbon cannister? There seems to be one pipe that is with the fuel in and fuel return pipes, and one pipe that goes to the bottom of the cannister and runs down the inner wing. Where do these go? Can I just leave them in place or do they need blocking off?

Also, what do people normally do with this valve?

Any help would be great as I am short on time.

Cheers,

Wayne.

Would love to help but not got a clue, looks confusing!

I have actually sent you a message via ebay regarding the ported headers you are selling. Getting the car mapped by Andy F soon and wondered if these will fit my 02 bugeye wrx?

Cheers

The breathers issue is easier than it looks.

I've done the following:
I've tee'd the two cylinder head breathers into one feed.
Then the now one cyliner head feed is Tee'd into the one from the crank case breather. this inturn goes to a catch can.
The vent from the catch can then goes underneath the car and vents to atmosphere.

With regards to the fuel tank breather I have put a one way valve on it and again routed that under the car and vented to atmosphere.

The purge valve has just been disconnected.

Finally the one way valve on the inlet manifold has been plugged.

Hope that's of use to you mate.

Where did you get the valve? Also, which way does it vent?

The valve I used was in the original charcoal canister pipe work.

There is a little arrow on it for direction of flow too.

Daz,

Are we stopping the tank from venting into the engine bay or are we allowing this and stopping air from going in? I'm assuming that we want air into the tank but not out?

As for Carbrook, when is it mate. If its this Monday then I'm on lates AGAIN!!!

Always seems to be the case that I'm working when everyone meets.

the carbon canaster just goes to amto, so you can get rid of that, this is a pic of my oil catch can, the thick pipe goes to amto, the left and right ones go to the crank case, and the middle one goes to the one just in front of the turbo.
block up the pcv valve in the inlet manifold, and block the old holes in the inlet pipe (from maf to turbo pipe)

Ok, got the breathers from the crank case and the heads sorted.

The vent that goes to the tank has me stumped. I have used the one way valve from the carbon cannister and connected it in the same direction as it originally was. The problem is that it seems to vent a fair bit of petrol fumes from the tank.

So, do I let the air vent FROM the tank or TO the tank?

I will get round to venting under the car at some stage.

Cheers,

Wayne.

You vent the fumes from the tank. Mine comes from the tank goes down the bulk head and is cable tied to the gearbox where it vents under the car. This is also where my breather from the catch can vents to atomosphere too.
