sti or not??? that is the question
i have had my94 impreza wagon now for nearly 3 years, and everything about it screams sti, numbered plaque under bonnet, number 85 of 200. relevant badges and stickers here there and everywhere and it is running completely standard at 260 bhp, rolling roaded at scoobyclinic back in the summer, this is apprantly standard for an sti version 1 wagon.
my problem is this, i have a leak on my power steering tank, and went to main dealer for a gasket to try first before replacing the tank or pump, they asked me for my chassis number and when i gave it to them, they said it was a standard wrx not an sti.
now do i believe them, or do they not know what they are talking about??
is there any other definite way of identifying the car as an sti or wrx, it is running a td05 turbo, which i believe is the correct one for an sti.
any help appreciated.
thanks
steve

i have had a look at that link, thanks for putting it up, i cant see my car exactly. here are the details of my chassis plate under the bonnet, the problem being i cant find the engine type, or option code, that is listed on my car on that list.
vin = gf8 - 007711
applied model = gf8b58d
option code = 62
trim code = 410
color code = 936
engine type = ej20gdw2re
transmission type = ty752vb3ca
if someone who knows a bit more about these type of things could have alook and tell me what it is im missing if anything, it would be appreciated.

so it appears that a subaru main dealer does not know what he is on about, no surprise there i guess, my engine code is exactly the same as the one on the linked post, but is not listed exactly on the first link you put up, but i am now happy that my car appears to be a genuine sti.
any further information about things to do with this car would be appreciated.
thanks for your help.

You got i/c water spray, red stitch gear ****, sti embroided seats? By what you've said already you have an sti v1, Your plaque under the bonnet will say what month your car was manafactured in it's limited number of that month.

Its late and I havent read the other posts; so I may be duplicating someone elses answer, but...
Both the 300 Saloons and the 300 Wagons built in 1994 were 'altered production'. This means that completed WRX models were taken off the production line and re-built as STI models. As a result of this they have standard series chassis and applied model numbers. This was also the case with the 1995 STI Type-RA. Only the STI models manufactured from the end of 1995 for the 1996 model year have unique AMNs and chassis numbers which will be accurately recorded.
260PS is good, they were only rated at 250PS when new... If I were you, then Id be confident that I owned number 85 of the second production of 1994 STI 'Wagons.

thanks alot for your help people, i was aware of the fact that they were originally wrx's and then played with from production to make sti's, but would have thought a subaru main dealer would have accounted for this when checking for part numbers, instead of just saying that they are standard wrx not sti.
my car does indeed have the sti interior, stitching on seats and gearknob, sti bezel on steering wheel, numbered plaque under bonnett, stating july 94, number 85 of 200. so it looks as though i do genuinly have a version 1 sti wagon, which i am happy about, i was also told that this model should be about 240 bhp with about 220 torque, but at rolling road day, it came out at 259 bhp and 252lbft torque, which i was well pleased with and this is totally standard, still has cat on downpipe jap limiter etc etc.
anyway once again thanks for your help and guidance in clearing this up, guess i should have known not to go to main stealer in first place really.

Unlike the STI V2 (which had a standard Saloon engine, Z4 ECU and TD05 turbo), the 1994 STI 'Wagons had a similar engine to the four door cars. They were officially rated at 250PS (WRX Saloons gave 240PS and 'Wagons 220PS), which is about 248 brake horsepower.
I wouldnt disregard dealers as a source of parts and information, on the strength alone. They did try to help, but they were let down by the information that was available to them.

something seems a lil dodgy, the fella on this page (bottom of page2) owns the first built sti wagon of the (2nd batch of 200 - not of 100) and his car was built in august........https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...t-built-2.html
