Default new car - new brakes needed

Santa was good to me this year – or rather my Dad was. He gave me his owned from new T-reg Impreza 2000 turbo with full service history and 107,000 mike showing.

Its not all good news though. The reason I got it is that cosmetically a bit of a state (actually its shocking). Most panels have been dinged and those that haven’t have been comprehensively keyed by the local Oiks (probably jealous - it is green after all) . Consequently the trade in quote was laughable so he solved two problems (ie getting rid of car, and getting me a pressy) by giving me the car. - Thanks Dad. PS he now has another Impreza

The car also has other issues and one that need sorting straight away are brakes. It needs new discs on front and pads (maybe disks also) on the rear.

The question is. what’s the best replacement to get, OE or after-market. I’m going to be honest about the cars use. Its road use only and me and the missus are not going to be hoofing it around (much). So I am looking for a road oriented solution. Anything that requires heating up before they work is not what I’m looking for. Any suggestions and recommendations on where to get the parts gratefully received. Thanks G-H

Hi, I've owned my MY99 for 8yrs now and its got 66k on the clock, I have recently fitted a set of Black Diamond cross drilled and grooved discs and Black Diamond Predator pads. The difference is incredible and much more reassuring than the previous set up! You do get a little more noise on braking, due to the grooves, but they work very well from cold giving an instant bite. Another bonus is that they look really good as well! I shopped around a bit and got the whole lot for £225 and they only took me 30 Min's to fit!

Everyone on here will have an opinion on whats good and whats not. As 'myblackwrx' says give the above a ring and I'm sure you will get good advice.

I had some DBA slotted discs from Alyn. I've been very pleased with them indeed. Not only are they good on the road, but they also handle track days if you want them to. I use super cheapo OMP Road Sport pads which are indestructible on track, but they might feel a little glassy for normal road use. But then for £30 a set, what do you want LOL
