Cheap Tyres Advice Please
Hi All
I have just bought a MY98 WRX STi RA V Ltd, the current tyres are a budget tyre I have never heard of.
The problems I am encountering in this Damp/Wet weather is loss of control in a straight line when accelerating hard, slides everywhere.
I am also finding if i brake moderately hard some of the wheels are locking up, not sure if its front or rear.
Can anyone tell me if the cheap tyres would cause the locking up and loss of control in a straight line.
From what I have heard, my Car hasn't got ABS, rather than it just not working, please advise.
Thanks for any advice
Ben

You have no ABS.
Cheap tyres are just that.
Nice value for money tyres are Marangoni from Italy. About £60 each and great in all conditions.
Quite soft compound, so don't expect a zillion miles a set!
My Sti has 370 bhp and drives (and races in the wet) well.

could be rerason behind the lock up, cheap tyres on a high performance car are a big no no, you only have limited contact with the road anyway so its worth spending money to get the best you can

zz3's are very good, but a bit to soft for my liking (although does mean you get a slight extra bit of grip) i prefer toyo proxy's myself, although if you ask ten people on here you'll prob get 15 different answers lol

I have the Toyo proxi T1R, which I put on after about 15000 miles on some toyo T1s, I stuck with Toyo as I found them to be better than the Pirelli P-zero's that were on the car when i got it.
Toyo's in 215 40 17 were only about £65 each delivered. excellent VFM

Got a set of yokohama parada spec 2's on mine at present. I paid £60 each incl delivery which is very cheap for a performance tyre. They replaced some bridgestones that were on the car from japan. For the money the yokohama's are a good tyre, in the dry and warm the grip is super, equally as good as the bridgstones, but in the cold they are death traps. Offer very little grip at all when the temp is under 5 degrees and they are not all that good in the wet either. All in all I'd say you get what you pay for with tyres. The bridgestones were the dogs in all conditions, and in the UK its very wet and pretty cold all of the time. Next set I get will either be bridgestone or michelin, nothing really comes close to them. Also when you think about it, the difference between a £240 set of tyres and a £400 set of tyres is about 2 tanks of fuel these days.
