Default Mapped for VPower. Tesco 99 ok ?

Hi,

I may be going up to the Highlands to go skiing next week. There are no Shell stations in the area, so I may need to use Tesco 99 RON. Will the car run ok on this for a single tank ? I take it the ignition should not retard since both fuels are the same Octane rating (I normally use VPower).

How long will the car take to relearn it's map if I have to put 95 RON in it ? (It's a remapped 2001 WRX).

i had mine mapped by jolly green monster last year and was on tesco99 he said it is ok to use v power aswell as both are 99 ron with no problems or need to adjust driving.

I've seen top mappers on here suggest that BP Ultimate is poo !

So that suggests there shouldn't be too much of a problem though ?

Id prefer BP to supermarket fuel to be honest. But thats just my opinion

Take some octane booster to be on the safe side.

Just try to keep it off Boost if u HAVE to use 95 Ron, there will be a lot more Knock if u drive it hard, so try to avoid doing so

I read some time ago new age ECU's adjust straight away to different fuels, not sure if thats the same with remapped ECU's though

I have a bottle of NF Octane booster in the boot for such occasions. In fact last time I filled up I had to use Shell 97 as they were out of V-power (car is mapped for V-power), just topped up with some NF and all is well. I recomend to anyone with a 99Ron map to keep a bottle of NF in the boot for emergencies.

ultimate is crap fuel

mine was mapped on V power and will only use v power or super + octane booster

when originally mapped with the simtec adn on ultimate the knock went mad, filled with v power and all was well.

Going to Aviemore mate, but there are no shell Stations between Perth & Aviemore, and even the one in perth is near the town centre (the Tesco is just off the A9).

You should have no issue using Tesco 99..

The newage ecu learns straight away.. although the learning to less ron is something I would try to avoid.. Tesco 99 should cause no issue and you have the added safety that it will adapt if it needs to.

BP really is not good.. Esso 97 is better than BP.

No its not,the shell one is just off inverlomand roundabout at perth before you hit the A9, just top up there and take it canny until aviemore,if you really need to get some, inverness is just 30 miles from aviemore and just off the A9 again at raigmore turn off. Dont know why you are so worryed

Pocket GPS World
If you join up there free you can download the POI for garages by brand or region too I think - I used to use it all the time for when I took my FTO to all the jap car shows down south - it was not so crucial to run that car on 97 or higher RON but with my new WRX I need to use V-Power or Tesco 99 as it has an Andy F remap for those fuels...
I hope that POI page on the site helps - I have used it for years and it's pretty spot on...good for finding cashlines too! I used the POIs for TomTom on the Ipaq but I am sure it can be used on other SatNavs

Never really been to keen on supermarket fuels. Is BP really that bad then? Havnt used it for a while, but see it as the next best thing if I cant find V power.

Many thanks Simon.

In fact I was thinking about sending you a PM to ask, but thought you were probably inundated with daft queries on here !

My understanding is that a mapped Newage won't be damaged by 95 RON - it'll just run sluggishly and have to relearn it's map when the next tank of VPower is put in ?

thanks again,

Andy
