What turbo has the 1997 sti got? is it the same as the 1994 wrx?

The turbo on a 97 sti is a vf23 and is a front entry turbo as opposed to a 94 wrx that a 90 degree entry td05

which car are you fitting it to, this will help dictate which is better / easier to use.

Lag wise they are not disimilar, power wise the TD05 is better. . it is a 16g.

The TD05 is a stronger turbo also

is 400 the max on that turbo td05 20g.

 

max on the standard td05 16g on the 94wrx circa 350bhp..

td05 20g circa 400..

yes vf23 as on mine, with just a 3" kakimoto exhaust dynoed at 298bhp at 1.35bar (not modded or chipped!)
allready booked for tracktive to fit hydra ecu, new pump, looking for about 330bhp/330lbf

My VF23 produced 335 bhp and was all done. Spool was reasonable, 1 bar in 4th around 3,300. TD05 similar spool but 10 bhp plus more.
