ok so i started the car yest morning and for some reason it starting idling quite high but very very rough and felt like it was missing a bit. it went back down to normal revs so i drove it around the corner kept it below 3k revs and it was really bad..missing a lot and it was only until it was warm that it calmed down and drove nicely.
it did exactly the same again this morning so its really starting to p*ss me off!
its a late 1993 wrx turbo import...had it for two weeks and i had been using normal unleaded fuel until i heard it better to use super so maybe its to do with that? or is it the plugs, leads? sensor?
pls, if you have any ideas then can u suggest as it saves me getting a diagnostics check!
cheers fellas

there are mixed views on how bad normal unleaded is for the imports. are you saying the cause of the my cars problems could be petrol related? only filled her up twice but now started using the better stuff

I have a very similar problem on my type RA,starts fine then goes rough just as the temp gauge starts to move,as you said feels like its missng then 2 minutes later it runs sweet and never misses,I use Vpower and NF booster.
Was told probally one coil pack breaking down, but cause it dosnt do it all the time no mechanic can replecate the fault when I take it in

reset the ecu as you've now put better fuel in the earlier ecus retard very easily for lower quality fuel but don't advance very easily.
Check www.JollyGreenMonster.com - Engine management specialist for help reseting the ecu or your local subaru specilaist should have a select monitor to check/reset the ecu (takes about 2 mins with the monitor).
i sort of had a similar cold start problem and the coolant temp sensor was found to be at fault (normally the fans should come on but mine didn't)

Mine was doing the exact same thing from cold and it turned out to be the Lambda sensor.
Fitted a universal one as I don't think the genuine ones are worth the money and it's spot on now

well that just builds me with confidence lol. fingers crossed its the fuel so will see what happens in the next week. cant see why it would be a coil pack seeing as its only when cold. when the lead went on my mr2 it was like mine is cold...all the time. going to get oil changed next weekend, maybe that will make a difference as the oil is dark and dirty at the minute. gonna go for 15w50 or 60....thanks for all advice peeps

I'd also say it isn't a coil pack or that it needs an oil change.
In my opinion from what you have described it's more likely to be the Lambda sensor or water temp sensor as you say it's fine when it's warm,it could possibly be the MAF sensor but i'm not too sure about that

And when you change the oil use 10w40 or 15w50 but not a 60,that's too thick for what you need
