Default wont go past 4k - 4.5k rpm

hi all

my my97 jap import wont go past 4k - 4.5k rpm when i have got foot to the floor, if i accelerate gently you can drive through it, this has done this for a couple of weeks, which at first i suspected it to be overboosting.

So i fitted a boost gauge and sure enough it was overboosting, hitting around 1.4 - 1.5 psi, so turned down the boost via the hks valve controller and car went fine running at 9 psi with no problems

today i fitted new spark plugs (NGK PFR7B) and the problem seems to reappeared, but now its only boosting at about 5 psi and car feels as if its misfireing at 4 - 4.5 k rpm

have swapped the coil pack, maf sensor, with known working 1's, and still the same problem
so tomorrow going to change back to the 6B sparkplugs to see if that cures it

anyone got any other suggestions before i start tommorrow??????

oops forgot the spec

96 sti import
greedy FMIC
induction kit
hks valve controller
has not been mapped as of yet or not that i know of

1. check to see if the car is in safe mode, try the ecu reset - green & black plugs under the steering wheel to see if any fault codes show up

2. try cleaning out the boost solenoid

3. check to see if you got any loose or damaged boost hoses

4. go back to standard spark plugs - the ngk 7's played up in my scoob

5. disconnect your maf plug while the car is running to confirm if your maf is working, should stall if its ok

6. have another look around your coil packs, remove the rubber boots to see if there is any cracks

1. will try the reset tommorrow, had battery off whilst changing the plugs as i was putting a new 1 in, which i thought it would of cleared it as there was no power for at least an hour

2. the boost solenoid has been replaced by the hks valve controller but i will check the pipes and give them a clean

3. will double check the hoses tommorrow

4. if none of the other suggestions work will try going back the the 6b's which car was working fine with before hand

5. the maf sensor was replaced with a known working one and still the same problems

6. coil pack was as above, replaced by a known working one

thank you for the quick reply will have another look tommorrow and try and do the ecu reset as per jolly green monsters instructions and will let you know how i get on

Default woo hoo, grin back on the face

found the problem it was not the spark plugs it was the rubber joining pipe on the front mount intercooler

it had perished and split, so after hunting around some local shops to no avail, got the old superglue and insulating tape out (yes i know its a bodge job but it will do until i can find a supplier for them)

took car out and its a systems go

thanks all that replied
